Hi All
Been a while since i spent some time in the river, those tantalising whiting are just too damn nice to ignore! Now, with winter approaching, time to hit the river and bay islands for some larger specimens.
On a recent trip with a mate 2 weeks ago, we discovered a spot (away from the masses) that we thought had potential. On that occassion, we scored some nice bream and cod, with the potential for bigger specimens evident! So, last night with good mate Pete as deckie, we left the F/Is ramp at about 8.30ish and went about gathering some livies. They were hard work but managed a few to get us through. We set up at the spot and sent out the livies, me with a mullet and Pete with a herring, while we fished for bream. Well, what bream?! Same spot 10 days ago, couldn't get a way from them, this time, not a skerrit! So, packed the bream gear away and pulled out a 'light' outfit and sent a prawn down to join his buddies. Pete had been hit a few times on the herring, which caused them to die of shock, but no screaming takers... until Mr prawn did the dance, and whack! Zzzzzzz she went!
A few blinding runs, got some line back on him and nearly all the way to the boat, but you knew he wasn't finished! And off he went again! Finally, buggered, he came in and on the 2nd attempt, saddled the net into the boat. Woohoo! 104cm & 6.7kg.
It was the only one caught for the night but that's all it takes! Was an absolutely gorgeous night and not a bad way to kill a few hours with a good mate (Takes 2 Safe Hands Pete :-X :P )!!
Take Care T
