Hey guys,

i took my boat out the other day and i noticed that the water jet at the back wasn't spurting out water. i have the engine manual and was going to take the impellor out and have a look.

Just seeing if anyone has played with this before and if they have any tips on how to do it.

The motor is a 30hp CV Yamaha.

I know car motors so im not new to this sort of thing but its the first time i will be playing with an outboard.

any help would be appretiated.
thanks

Hi Mikey, I am no outboard mechanic but a handy research place is youtube. I was looking at something on there and found there are quite a few videos on basic outboard maintenance. There is plenty of knowledge on this site as well so try a search through the forums.

It could be nothing more than a blocked pisser tube, either pull it off at the block to see if it still pisses. you can also start the engine on muffs and keep feeling the head and block with your hand, it cannot get hot without you feeling it getting hot.

But then again, if you suspect a perished and broken impeller due to age best not start it and save as many bits as possible from travelling up into the engine.

cheers fnq

A bit of wire up the "pisser tube" or tell tale should clear it if any wasps have decided to make a home in there. If not impellor could be shagged easy job just remember never sieze on the threads wen you put it back together will make it easer next time

Just be aware that when you ahve all the bolts undone the gearbox will fall off on a yamy cv30 ( a certain AUsfisher was trying to take his off with a hammer until I showed him a bolt he had forgotten)

also do not force the top gearbox adjusting nut if its tight heat it up!.. you will break a plastic part under the carby which requires the powerhead to come off to replace :)

Recently changed the impeller on m Yammy CV30. Was fairly easy. Yeah there is a couple nuts holding the gear shift rod on. I undid those first before removing the bolts holding the gearcase on (its worth getting a marker to mark the position of these nuts so you can put them back in the same place when you reassemble - so as to not throw your shift lever out of alignment or cause shifting problems etc.

Just have some bricks or blocks of wood sitting under the skeg so the leg cant drop too far without you knowing it.

Fairly straightforward and easy to put back together. Mine pumped water well first time after re-assembly and good flow too :)
