Greetings all!

Still awaiting news of stuff up with mono.

Bought a Japanese rod at a garage sale 2 weeks ago - OH how the Lennox Head folk want to offload their gear!

Bought a Japanese rod that is most unusual!

A 5 piece telescopic rod, made by Daiwa in Tokyo.

Selected polyester and fibreglass..

Closed length 91cm/open 3.9m.

Closed looks like a Japanese sword with dark brown, fawn and white bindings.

Minimalist metal, snap-lock reel seat.

Tiny stainless guides that slide into the rod when it is pushed together.

Proiso 39 DX.

Iso means 'Rock Fishing' though this seems to be designed for Whiting or Gar.

Anyone know anything about these rods? Anyone collect Japanese gear?

Rob.

G'Day Pommy,

I am surprised that as a pommy you would find telescopic rods unusual... It might be unusual here in the great land of Oz where driving up the beach with a couple of one piece 13 footers in the bullbar is the norm, but in the rest of the world, multi-piece rods are the norm.

I've had a few telescopic rods (bought in Europe) for carp and trout, but I'd never use one for beach fishing because I would hate to see sands get in everywhere, especially between the (sliding) guides and the blank.

Having said that, some of the telescopic shimano gear (sold in japan) has a totally amazing parabolic action that has to be seen to be believed (imagine a 5 meters rod bent into a U shape) and would be great for black fish.

Just my 2 cents.
