Some druggo ripped / broke the power aerial off my wife,s challenger.
I'm thinking getting a new one from bitsamissing is going to be at a considerable cost?
If I buy an after market one from say, Auto cheap, Will there be much dramas in fitting it and will it work the same as the original, ie; Auto retract when ignition turned off? as well as the interior switch to half raise and full raise?
Thanks in advance

Mick,
If he's just broken the aerial mast off, all you'll need to replace is the "mast and chord"!
Remove the aerial motor assembly, and dismantle, and remove remaining plastic chord (that's the part that runs up the middle of the aerial and extends and retracts it)
Re-assemble, and feed the new chord into assembly.
Activate the motor turning it off and feed the chord into assembly until entirely in.
Re-assemble assembly into vehicle, and test aerial operation.
Job done!
Just take your time, and use common sense.
If it cant be done at home, just take it to an auto ellecy, and he'll soon assemble it for you.

Thanks Macca, I am glad that I wont have to replace the entire unit.
I am assuming that I will need to get the aerial and cord from Mitsubishi?

they will do an aftermarket one for your car. it will be easy to do but it can be a bit of a prick to get at and also get the antenna plug in the back of the headunit.

Looking at my rig, Id need to remove the mud deflector material that is under the wheel arch.
There is no way in from the engine bay.
if worse comes to worse, I suppose I will need to remove the fender side panel. Ill start pulling things apart tomorrow arvo after ive taken the kids for a fish.
I got to come through with a feed on there plate as I promised:-/
Come on the Tweed river ::)
Im thinking for a sure fish in the bag is to switch bate the educated bream under the fingal head boat ramp pontoon;D

Yeah Mick,
Get the mast and chord from mitsubishi!
Take off your mudflap, then remove the wheel arch inner lining to access the aerial motor assembly.
(makes more room if you take off the wheel as well, but not necessary)
Not only is the motor held on with mounting bolts, but also held on by the decorative nut on top of guard where mast comes out.
The wiring will unplug not far from the motor.
The coaxial cable may have a plug inside the cabin behind kickpanel.
If not, it will have to be disconnected at radio unit.

Mick,
to replace the aerial, you only need to unscrew the nut on the base of the aerial mount on the top of the guard. I have pulled mine out a couple of times, and the whole metal shaft, and cord come out through the top. If the mast has gone down inside, then it becomes a need to remove the drive unit. But if you can still get hold of the mast from the top then no issues.
Mitsubishi has the replacement mast and cord for around $80. I have seen a replacement for the Pajero at Repco for $30. Not sure if it will fit the Challenger.
