G'day all,

What seems like ages ago now I took my boat out on a fine day with my 11 year old daughter as deckie for the day and targeted Mud Island. Left very early in the morning to arrive at sun up and without any time wasting the lines were in. The bites were there but nothing too big until suddenly the daughter's rod buckles over and drag peels off pretty fast. With a bit of coaching I got her into the pumping and winding action and before too long I watch her land her personal best fish ever being a 43cm cod. She was stoked and I grabbed the camera to capture the moment. After a few snap shots I continued fishing landing 3 keeper squire to add to the collection. At home I washed the boat as usual and packed all the gear away and once inside thought about loading the photos onto the computer which is where things went wrong. For the life of me I could not recall where the camera was. The last time I remembered seeing it was when I took the photos of my daughter's proud moment. I then started the panic routine and literally tore the car and boat apart to try and find it but to no avail. It was gone for good I thought along with the precious photos which was my main reason for being upset. After accepting the loss eventually of my quite expensive compact camera I have moved on and been looking at a new camera but yet to find one with the same features for an affordable price because it seems the new models do not have the same weatherproof features mine had for the same dollar value. Just this morning I was looking out the front thinking the weather was crap and miffed about the fact I am home when I would love to be out in the boat and then I noticed something shiny under a shrub in the front garden. On closer look it turned out to be my long lost camera and what's amazing is that apart from being dirty and wet it is still perfect and had enough charge still to view the photos so here they are. Hope you enjoy them.

Thats awesome. She'd be happy with that. I've lost my big torch at home after a similar episode - I hope it turns up oneday soon (like your camera did) - for the life of me I can't remember where it is. Anyway, Happy Easter mate. Cheers, Darren.

Thanks. It has really made my day not so much that I got the camera back but because I wanted to have these photos. It was a proud moment to see my daughter hook up, fight, and land it all on her own and for it to be her biggest fish to date. Knowing the photos are now safely with me is just great.

Chief I have been out a few times in between bad weather and I have come home with some decent feeds but without photos I have not bothered reporting. Have worked around Peel a bit lately and yielded some reasonable feeds there.

She sure is mate. My daughter is just a gem and makes the best company out there.

Thanks Silent. That day we had the area almost to ourselves so there were little boaties to contend with. Been going to Peel a bit more of late just to find new ground.

I am still amazed about finding the camera. Really thought it was gone for good. I have used the weed trimmer in the garden as well but never saw the camera because it was tucked well underneath the shrub. It was only a rare chance that I looked from a different angle and saw the sun reflecting off it.

Try looking in the garden mate. ;D Hey I hope you find it too. Happy Eater to you and yours also.

Cheers,

Hey Poodroo, congrats on finding that camera. I know how upset you were that you lost, not the camera, but the memories it contained. Now that ive seen the photos, i can understand why you were feeling the way you did. What a top effort by your girl. Lets hope we see many more of her smiling face with many memorable fish in the future.

Cheers

Thanks Greg. Well you are right that's for sure. The photos held more worth than the camera and I am so glad I now have them. I will be able to look back on them forever now. When the weather settles I am sure she will be out with me chasing a new PB soon. She is well and truly hooked on fishing. Will make the most of it while I can.

Appreciate the kind words RAT-KING. Yes she does well using the soft plastics. The plastic that did the damage on the day was a 3" Gulp banana prawn. That colour was the one that seemed to catch all the fish on the day.

I'm still around mate, i just hang on the fringe and don't get all that involved.

I don't like the negative replies that sometimes (to offten) knock members who report catches that are completely legal, i believe that we should all be trying to help one another on this site rather than shooting at each other. Too many self appointed experts.

Andrew i recently increased my PB bay snap on plastic, more than twice the legal limit, oh and for those others out there, it was put back, along with others, to fight anotherday, i took a couple of 43cm models home to eat.

Cheers,
John.

Hi again John. Yes it is a bit disheartening and I have to agree with you. I don't post much either as a result. At this stage I would like to thank those who have posted on this thread without any negativity. That's fantastic. :D As always John I can count on you for quality replies. Should catch up again soon.

Awesome story there, Andrew. I'm sure your daughter would've remembered that great moment for a long time anyway, but it makes it that bit more special being able to look back at the photos in years to come. I remember clearly taking my nephew to get his first fish, but it's even better having the photos to look back on and smile. Let's hope she'll be outfishing you on a more regular basis!! Happy easter and a great cod.

I saw this post and thought back to when the fish was caught which was ages ago - the camera was gone so long i had forgotten. Did I show you the pic I snapped in the car park? Poodroo and I often team up with two boats, which is the case on this day. Another shot for the memory of that top day!

Happy Easter to you too Cuzza. Thanks for the kind words. She is great company when fishing. I am sure there will be more threads started with her as the star in the photos.

I had some nice squire that day too. The fish were boneless filleted and then dipped in plain flour, then into an egg and milk mix, then crumbed and shallow fried. Makes me want to go out again for more fresh fillets. ;D
