Hi,
Was in Anaconda today and noticed they have some new lures out... They're fairly blatant rip offs of existing lures, but they don't look half bad, I bought two, so it will be interesting to see how they go.
The middle X-RAP isn't an X-RAP, it's a Mojiko Dynamite killer min 95SU (I was going to ask that you guess, but the slightly different bib gives it away) and the little fellow at the bottom could be mistaken for a River 2 Sea Baby Vib 35, well it's actually a Mojiko Bady Vib 35.. Picked them up for $5ea.
They had a bunch of others that were all lookalikes and closely named to the genuine article.
I mainly bought the X-RAP lookalike to see how the Barra respond to it at the Bli Bli barra park as they went nuts over my other one (second from the top). It would certainly lesten the pain if I lost it, I'd hate to lose a $20 lure to a little pond donkey :P

Chamelion, once again, thanks for your info on HB's. You seem to know alot about HB's and copies. Would you mind posting a list on here of all the knock offs that you have found?

They sure do look like X Raps...it will be interesting to see if they swim as well as the originals . The finish looks very nice.
How do they compare weight wise ?

I'l going back for more knock offs heh, I figure they're better for the mrs and kids to use than my dearer lures, especially when we're at baffle creek. I'll get my mate to sneak some photos onto his mobile phone.
From memory they had knock offs of-
Rapala X-RAPS
R2S Baby Vib
R2S Bubble pop 35
R2S Obese crank
R2S Fingerling Shad
R2S Baby Minnow
R2S Downsider minnow
There were a couple more in the small lures and I didn't take much notice of the larger lures. That said the Downsider minnow was there as noted above and they had a few models that were looking to start reaching close to the 1ft mark.
The weight in the X-RAP knock offs are extremely comparable. If the bibs were identical I honestly would not be able to tell the difference. They do feel extremely well made.

I'm torn... personally I'm inclined to stick with companies like Megabass etc who put so much time, effort and money into creating original designs. Still, it hurts the hip pocket when you lose a few of those lures. Copying designs is just business... and if the copies (or copies of copies) are up to scratch, and you're on a tight budget, why not?
The Mojikos certainly look the goods. Let us know how they go!

Isn't Mojiko actually Anaconda.
I thought it was just the brand they use instead of their own name but it is actually them. Same with quite a few brands in their store I thought.

Yes, Mojiko is their 'Home brand'.... I also heard a rumour a month or two back that they were also looking to release a copy of the Jackal Chubby.
So far Mojiko gear has proven to be pretty reasonable in the quality department. I've been using the braid in 6lb, 10lb, 15lb and 30lb for a couple of months and I honestlly cannot fault it. I've had only 3 very minor wind knots in a thousand casts and no bust offs above the leader... The lip grippers work well and I have no complaints about the filleting kits.
I havn't tried anything else yet...
Matt.
Yep, you can't buy Mojiko anywhere but Anaconda. I once bought a half-price multi-piece Mojiko spin stick and first trip a couple of guides came off. It was the first cheapie rod I had ever purchased, and the last!
Their lures may well be better though, they look OK, at least.

Yes, I certainly wouldn't be buying any of the rod/reel combos. They look about as good as a brick to the head.
I was back today, picked a few more lures up to try.. A couple more X-RAP lookalikes for the mrs, kids, mum and dad to use/lose, another Bady vib 35, some random 100mm~ deep diver and a R2S Cicada Pop clone.
An unrelated note, but I also picked up a TT spinner bait in purple 1/4 ounce to try in the freshwater tommorow.
If anyone is after 27kg mono they're selling Tiagra 1000 meter spools for $55.
EDIT: Beware, the lures are scanning up wrong. My mate had to wait 15 minutes for his to be redone.

Spent some time this afternoon testing them out.. The X-RAP knock offs swim well and seem like a good investment for the money. I'll see how they go on the barra this weekend as a comparison against the genuine article.
The Baby Vib knock off seems to work well. I havn't tried the genuine article so I can't make a comparison. That said, I can't immagine the R2S original being much better, if any better at all.
I didn't try the cicada pop, the kids were getting wrestless, but I'll try it tommorow over at Baroon pocket dam.
My mate bought a couple of the other Mojiko lures available.. I'll see what he thinks of them tommorow.
I too like the idea of supporting long standing companies who have spent considerable time designing and testing lures, however these cheaper alternatives make good 'rentals' in that it won't hurt so much when a friend or family member loses them.

R2S are an OK lure but you'd have to say the vast majority of are a rip off an existing lure so we have clones of clones of clones in the case of the bubble pop lets hope the fish never wise up.

They sent me a $10 voucher today so I might pick up a couple of small ones to try for bream. They certainly look good and at half the price of a real Baby Vib why not...
I've bought too many knock off lures over the years ........... most have ended up in the bin:( - when compared to the originals or some high end replicas ........ they just dont cut it ( swim like crap , too light , hooks , rings - build quality etc) - Its just false economy IMO

Generally I would tend to agree. However these lures really are right up there close to the real deal. I tried the Cicada pop clone yesterday and it has a very, very good action and looks very good in the water. I can't wait to try it out on togas.

Looks the goods! I've found the only major downfall if you're using them for barra is that the componentry is only stuck on into the lure as opposed to a wire leading through the lure from bib to rear hook. Upgrade the trebles and splits and you've got a good cheap lure that won't make your heart jump everytime it lands to deep in a snag.
