Ended up at the barra park today between 1pm and 6pm. Paid my fee, walked over to the barra park itself where I met Nuggstar who was hard at work :P, who incidentally seems like a top bloke and I look forward to fishing with again 8-)

The going was very very slow on the pellets and dead whole mullet between 1pm and 3pm. At that point I gave up on the pellets and decided to try my new X-Rap 100mm lures before I use and probably lose them up at Baffle creek...
First cast I had a hookup but it threw the hooks with an aerial display. About half an hour later after I had worked out the kinks in my technique I landed a nice barra, my first on a lure. I had another couple of hits and another hookup/thrown hooks before I landed my second. Another couple of hits and I landed another one and then I nailed the lucky fourth barra at around 5:15pm.

They all seemed to fight a whole lot better when attatched to a lure, they hit hard and didn't give up too easily. I had 15lb mojiko braid, 20lb Daiwa mono leader and my drag set relatively tight and they still managed some nice little runs.

All in all I'm quite impressed and I wish I had have given the barra park a try months ago when there was still plenty of summer left. Not to worry, I'll probably be back there next week. :D

Cheers :)

Matt.

Sounds like fun Matt, I'll be heading up that way next week for a week so I'll be popping to the park for a day. Tell us if you wanna fish Noosa river one landbased? Good luck at Baffle mate.

How much does a session at the park cost? and are there any restrictions on what tackle you can use?

Well done on the Barra.

Quite fun :D I might be good for a fish around Noosa, but I don't know the place very well at all having only fished there twice in my 16 years on the coast... Depends on the day too. :)

$25 for 3 hours or $35 for the day.. As far as I know there are no tackle restrictions, Nuggs might be able to clear that one up.
I saw all sorts there today.. People with livies, dead bait, pellets, lures, big hooks, tiny hooks, weighted, unweighted, light line, heavy line, one rod, multiple rods.. you name it. The only thing I didn't see anyone using would have been ganged hooks.

Yeah Matt, I know of some decent spots where we could get some 30cm bream and you can even see them eat the lure which is pretty awesome sight too. Tell us if you're free for a fish.

Im keen to go for a fish there mid week (avoid the madding crowds) ......are barra the main target species...or are there any other stocked fish there? I mean .....what sort of gear should I bring to get the 'All round experience'.

Have driven past the place many times....but was working so couldnt stop. Not meaning to hijack the thread....but now that your all here!

sleepy thay have a mixed spicies pond that has big barra , giant harring, tarpon, jack, cod, huge bream, big trevs, whiting, gar even a few snapper were put in there but its tricky to fish, if you have a kayak, you and use it in there. you can use any thing you like in there but gang hooks. the new fish went in there on friday, and they have been hitting lures for the last 3 days. if you fish pellets fish light , like bream gear light, say 4-10 lb main and a good leader in say 10-15lb, you should be able to go a bit heaver with the lures.

it was great to meet ya chamelion ;D

There's a few decent cod in the main lagoon too. Mick (land_lubber) got one during their comp last year.

Hoping the weather doesn't turn fould again this weekend, my Daughter wants to have a flick with my X-RAP hehehe.. She's a pretty keen little fisho, but getting a bit impatient with the lack of fish of late.. She'll have a ball with the barra!

i hope so, i just hope its not shut down for ya's like it was when ya started out that day. see how they change there minds so quick on what they want to feed on. i got a new lure today that i recon it doing to do a lot of damage to the big boys so you will see it in action on the weekend. i want that x rap you got hehehe

Thats the thing, all day I rarely saw anyone catch any on pellets and I didn't see any pulled in on livies.. But as soon as I tied on the lure I had a hookup first cast and I didn't even know there was a fish there.

Next time I'll start out flicking lures and then switch to pellets if I feel like a spell.

If I can get my kids and my mrs to hook, fight and land one fish each it'll be money well spent.

So you can take a kayak and use in the mixed species pond? I wouldn't mind giving that a shot.

I'd love to hook up to one of the big girls from a kayak. It'd be just like the cable skiing in the pond next door :P
