Hey guys,

I have the above mentioned reel and love it for casting large baits like stiffys and larger plastics. However recently I have downsized the baits that I have been throwing and as a result the reel has not been getting used due to its inability to throw the lighter weights as far as my zillions. Which raises the question what can I do to increase the cast distance??I understand that it will never cast as far as the zillions but just wanting to get everything that I can out of it. Am looking at upgrading the spool bearings and changing the spool but am a little lost as too what to go to.

I would degrease the bearings and the levelwind and re oil them with ABU Rocket fuel.

Hey Scott,
The bay area special was designed as an inshore jigging reel the spool design is different to any other millionaire there are no bearings attached to the spool so changing the bearings wont make much of a difference.
Some rocket fuel might make it cast a little better but i dont think it will get the results your after as the reel was not designed for casting.
Have you had a look at the bay casting special it looks pretty much the same on the out side but features a gigas spool and is designed as a salt water casting reel and casts as good as a zillion.
Cheers kyle.

Yep I have to agree with Kyle, my Baycasting Special with 20lb Sunline Super PE will cast pretty close to my Zillion HLC with the same line. Beautiful reel, and the 103 size is a perfect size even for my small hands.

ditto what has been said, never designed as a casting reel and as such has a basic centrifugal brake control. if you keep the reel the only way to change this is to get the EAS sideplate and spool from a bay casting special. they are a fantastic round casting reel and will easily outcast lighter weights than a zillion thanks to smaller dia. lighter GIGAS spool and mag v tuning
