Planning a trip to 1770 next week (if TC Jasper doesnt develop), and was after a few tips for Reds. I think I pretty much have the trout sussed but have yet to wrangle a big (or even decent!) Red to the boat.

My plan is to fish the eastern side of Fitzroy or thereabouts in a bit of deeper water with big baits over any structure and/ or bait that I find. I will most probably use paternoster rigs with one dropper and a whole mullet/ slimy/ yakka for bait, with big plans of finally getting a big one.

Is my plan on the money?? I have no marks on the eastern side of Fitzroy as my marks are mainly around the reefs as I have concentrated on big trout in the past but am expanding my horizons so to speak.

If anyone can drop some pointers/ hints as to how to catch that one big fish I am after I would be most thankful. Also if anyone else is up that way next week and wants another boat for safety for an overnighter at the reef or just some company at the pub, we'll be up there Wednesday to Sunday, so PM me if you are keen.

Many thanks and cheers,
Shane

Hey ShaneC,

I'm booked in for a week over easter - I'm a little bit greener than you by the sounds as it will be my first time up there in the 23 footer.

I will eagerly read the posts on here but if anyone is up that way over Easter and can have a "tagger-alonger" it would be great to hear from you. Cheers and good luck ShaneC- looking forward to seeing the results
