Gday
I don't fish the bay reefs very often but when I do I fish catch & release apart from maybe keeping the odd Snap. Heading out in the morning and if I'm lucky I'll keep a few for the table this time. Just realised I got no idea of the new (or old) min size reqired for Grassy Sweetlip, Red Throat Sw, Tuskies and Moses Perch.
Can some one fill me in please?
Cheers

moses perch have always come under the heading of " all tropical snappers and sea perches" 250mm bag of 5 per spicies

Grass emporor ( sweetlip) are with other tidal spicies at 300mm bag of 10

you should be able to pick up the new book at any decent tackle shop.

cheers

Mate, this is an excerpt that I have done for ease of use. it shows the sizes etc of what you need. I did it like this so that I could laminate it and carry a copy of it in the boat. should last a little while longer than the glossy brochures that you get.

Cheers

Shane. pm me with your normal email address if this doesn't work and i will send you the file.

"The following legal limits are effective from 1 March 2009....

This just shows how complicated the whole thing has become:P . We have several guys who have access to a computer in front of them, coming up with a variety of sizes and bags limits. What chance does the average punter in his tinny have:-/ .
By the way the Grassies are 30cm and a bag of 10 while the Tuskies are not Parrotfish (25cm,bag5) but under Wrasses and Tuskfish size 30cm and bag of 6.

first...

All emperors 25 min 5 per species Emperor
exceptions
Red-throat emperor (sweetlip emperor) 38 min 8
Long nose emperor 38 min 5
Spangled emperor 45 min 5

then...

All sweetlips
excluding redthroat emperor (sweetlip emperor) 25 min 5 per species

then...

Grass emperor (grass sweetlip) 30 min 10

Just pay a few fines now, get ahead...

Tuskfish and parrot fish are two different fish.
Parrot fish is a common name used for Tuskfish that is were the confusion comes from.

Grass sweetlip come under the inshore finfish not the coral or rocky reef finfish
30cm limit of 10

Tuskies 30cm combined of 6

there are no red throat sweetlip in the bay, maybe once in a blue moon you may catch one.

only grassies, spangled and Harlequin which you very seldom catch

Thanks guys,
Ended up with a 1/2 doz 45cm squire, one nice cod, about 10 undersize squire & grassys and quite a few bust offs and straightened hooks (TT heavy guage my arse). Kept 3 fish for the table.

Webby I only asked about the red throat because my mate landed 2 there last week.

Its crazy how complicated this all is...

Up here in Nth Qld we have a bag limit of a total of 20 coral reef finfish each but on top of that you can catch up to your individual bag limit of Mackeral, trevally, cobia,Grassies and reef jacks which are all classed as inshore finfish or "other Tidal species"...

This has been around now for a few years up here and I still have to consult the bag limit lists while fishing because I just cant remember the size and take limits for all the fish..gee it messes with my head some days when the pages of my glossy booklet are all stuck together ...
