I was so pissed off with nissan today i thought I would fix this squeek just to prove they are a bunch of morons. I knew the problem was always the bonnet latch, despite the dealer protesting that it wasn't. So today I popped the bonnet, and once again I could see where the mounds of grease nissan had put on the latch had rubbed away.

So the trick is, loosen the 3 bolts holding the latch down, leaving just enough tension on the bolts so that the latch stays in place. Get a shifter or use your spanner and tap the latch down a fraction, maybe a mm or 2, then tighten the bolts back up. Problem solved. No more squeeks. I dare say if you move the latch to far left or right, or to far down it will probably still squeek. But if you put grease on it, just look for where the grease has been rubbed off and the metal is shiny. Adjust accordingly. I have no doubts that the first decent corrugated road I travel on will move the latch araound again, but its easy enough to fix.

Now there is a high pitch squeek when the car is idling. On my car this is the side steps. If I get out and give them a kick foward (they have moved back from bottoming out on tracks) the squeek stops. So this weekend I will fix that squeek up too.

I hate squeeks>:( Took the work vehicle out the other week and it had a high pitch squeek coming from the cargo barrier. Said to the usual driver doesn't that annoy you and he goes what squeek:huh:

I had the same problem with my bonnet, used a bit of duct tape around the bonnet catch. Works a treat.

I had a real anoying squeak in my D40. I thought it was comming from either the passanger door or the dash.. I looked for near an hour to find it.. Turned out to be my sunglasses in the sunclasses compartment.....

I fixed the side steps, by replacing them with ARB Protection steps...

Actualy, my insurance fixed it..... I crunched my side step at N/Straddie, along with a bit off other damage..... Got a price on a new side step from Nissan. $1300 each, and thats trade price. $1600 each full retail..... Decided there and then it was a job for my insurance to look after....

I ask my insurance if they would go for the ARB steps, as they were cheeper and 100 times stronger... They happerly agreed, as it was a win for us both....

I have a noise in the dash of my car ATM, usually I can handle these things well (which is lucky because it's a GQ) but it's getting persistent. I have been waiting for the right reason to to attach the oil light buzzer wire from my aftermarket gauge so will kill two birds with the one stone.

Cheers fnq
