I was so pissed off with nissan today i thought I would fix this squeek just to prove they are a bunch of morons. I knew the problem was always the bonnet latch, despite the dealer protesting that it wasn't. So today I popped the bonnet, and once again I could see where the mounds of grease nissan had put on the latch had rubbed away.
So the trick is, loosen the 3 bolts holding the latch down, leaving just enough tension on the bolts so that the latch stays in place. Get a shifter or use your spanner and tap the latch down a fraction, maybe a mm or 2, then tighten the bolts back up. Problem solved. No more squeeks. I dare say if you move the latch to far left or right, or to far down it will probably still squeek. But if you put grease on it, just look for where the grease has been rubbed off and the metal is shiny. Adjust accordingly. I have no doubts that the first decent corrugated road I travel on will move the latch araound again, but its easy enough to fix.
Now there is a high pitch squeek when the car is idling. On my car this is the side steps. If I get out and give them a kick foward (they have moved back from bottoming out on tracks) the squeek stops. So this weekend I will fix that squeek up too.
