Went out Tuesday am to a bay creek at change of low tide with a mate, both in kayaks. First time we have really tried fishing from them and using plastics. Stopped off at an exposed sand/mud bank for a few casts and landed a good Flattie at 53cm. A real buzz getting him as my first good fish using plastics. Caught a few smaller fish in the past and was starting to think all this plastic stuff was a bit of bull-sh__t. Have now changed my mind after just one good one, funny that!! Saw heaps of action in the water in the shallows after about an hour of run in tide, about 30-50cm of water. Tried everything but no touches - could have been chopper Tailor or Thready's. A few prawns and small baitfish in the water as well. Has certainly wet my appetite!!

Beautiful morning with a slight SW breeze - great place to be.8-)

Went again Wed am but wind came up and made it a bit unplesant being in kayaks being blown everywhere and fighting the wind to get a good fish in. Did manage to hook on to a very large ray that towed me around for quite a while before I cut him off. So that was a bonus (bit of fun).

Quite impressed with the plastics as never caught anything of size before. Sort of has me hooked for the moment.:)

Good to see you break your duck mate, it's addictive now.

Should be able to get in real skinny water in a yak.

With prawns around at the moment try a popper or unweighted plastic like a shrimp or an atomic prong and flick it in short sharp jabs along mangrove banks on high tide.

Should see a few bream in the net or you could be a chance on the whiting with clear poppers as well.

Mick.

Well done Gregw! 53cm is a nice fish!
Sooo which creek did you fish and what plastic did you use, always good to get the specifics on a catch like that. Plenty of flatties about.
Cheers

Thanks for the comments guys.
Sorry but I think I'll keep the location to myself at the moment.
As for the plastic, a bit unknown as I nicked it from my son who has been nailing flatties on the northern NSW coast with them. Was in an unmarked packet - any clues. Photo attached.

Hey greg use the 3 inch prawns in natural or pepper neon at day cause the fish love prawns. I have been using the lobby 3 inch with x factor and getting even better hits. Cheers and welcome to plastics. I don't get heaps of fish but the quality of size is much better.
