Decided to head out to Mud this morning for just a lazy days fishing. The idea was to just get out there, anchor up, sit back and relax. Heading out the mouth of the river about 9:30ish i was greeted with one of the calmest days ive ever seen in that area of the bay.

Over near mud i noticed a decent sized sandcrab floating in the water. Turned around, scooped it up but it was a female so back it went. Anyone know why it would have been floating?

Got to the northern side of Mud near the bouy and threw the anchor out and cast some servo prawns, not really expecting much at all. The first 20 minutes saw me with a 40cm squire and a 35cm grassy in the eski. Stayed til about 12:30 for another grassy and a tuskfish in the eski. Not many legal fish compared to the amount of little squire we caught. First time ive caught a legal squire at mud so im pretty happy. Pics tomorrow when i get them.

Cheers, Nick.

Well done mate, ya got a feed and had some fun! Was the crab floating or swimming ? The other name for sandies is blue swimmer crab. Quite often I see them swimming along at Mud.

you need to get out there a touch before the crack of 9.30....but if its just a lazy day who cares if the weather is good...

Good result for a relaxed fish. What better than soaking up good conditions and getting a feed?

The swimmers often do that sort of thing, but not a good survival technique. Maybe it was trying to avoid some ooglies hovering around underneath that you could not see. My brother saw a medium size turtle floating not far away while fishing, a BIG splash, whoosh and instantly no more turtle.
