Hi all,

Went to Monduran the weekend to try the new boat onto some likely Barra, the aim of the trip was to run the boat in and to venture new grounds, and of course to catch a Barra.

Started the trip off by someone running into the back of me going home from work. The first thing I checked was the tow bar, don't worry fella's, it was ok. Not too fussed about the rest of the car as it is a company vehicle (ha ha)

If you read previous posts, 3 of my mates pulled out due to various reasons, so I went up with my other three very good mates, me, myself and I.

Got there and set the tent up in record time, to get down to the ramp where I had to park the car half way up the hill. After a very long 45 second walk, I started to think that it was getting just like Awoonga. Put the boat in and ventured up the North Arm of B for a look as I have never been up that way before. Checked the speedo and clocked it at 65Km/Hour so I was stoked... until I was overtaken by a Skeeter.

To start the day off, the third cast I was onto my first Barra which was caught on a slightly modified Storm 'Wildeye' Shad in white with black spot. If this was going to be whats its like the next few days, then bring it on! After 5 minutes of attempting to maneouvre the new wireless electric, I got a healthy 104cm to the boat. This must be a camera moment, but wait! wheres the camera? still on the top shelf in my cupboard at home :-(

Headed to Bird Bay to try the windward bays and got one more on a 110cm modified drop Bear Slick Rig, which measured 99cm. Lost three more Barra before it was time to get back to the ramp.

Next day saw the winds pick up, so headed up the dam again to explore new grounds. tried up 'H' and various Bays on the way back and then into the cattle yards. Got four Barra (under 1m) to the boat and lost a couple of unstoppables that took a liking to my lures and are now wearing them as mouth rings. Had a sleep after lunch in the boat until the first drop of rain got me fair square in the eye and woke me up, thanks to Cyclone Hamish.

Headed back to Bird Bay just in case and saw most boats head back, but I could handle it (last famous words by some) Tried the points again and had numerous double taps on the plastics but no hook ups.

After that I headed back to the ramp and noticed that most campers had fled the scene of the crime and gone back home early due to the incoming cyclone.

Met quite a few fellow fishers, where we shared some war stories, tall tales and a few ales. Nice to of met you fellas.

Over all, 6 Barra and one of the biggest Catfish I have ever seen, that must of been a good 7-8Kg. Three lost lures, one bloodied carpet, one (first) scratch down the side of the shiney new boat and tall tales to tell my mates who couldn't come.

Back at work now, looking at the calendar, pencilling in the next trip...

Tight lines...

Thanks for the report WB. 6 fish in the boat over the weekend is a great effort. You can never get enough of this barra fishing can you? The drive home is all about planning the next trip. - cheers RC.
