Go to water tower bait and tackle next to the bp servo.

If you are after small pillies for say 3/0's, try Richards Brothers. That is where I get mine for beach fishing.

Raptis Seafoods at Colmslie stocks 15kg boxes of IQF pillies. i think they are around the $50 mark. Give them a call. they are pretty helpful.

Raptis suckered me twice, never again. $6-95/kg I have been offered the twice I went in there regardless of the amount. Ring em on the phone and they tell you to come in they will look after you....... BS!
Richards bros are a seafood supplier at 3 mcconnell street bulimba. Human consumption grade IQF pillies for about $60 for a 15kg box. There can be some variation in size throughout the year but more usually smaller genuine WA pillies as Cheech said.

Straddie was the one that put me on to them a couple of years ago. Thanks again.

I went and bought some pilchards from Richards Brothers today for the first time.
They were very friendly to deal with. They welcome the public. "Anyone with cash" is what they said to me when I asked if they were happy to be selling small quantities such as one box of pillies to the public. ;D
...and you will need cash. They don't have eftpos facilities. "The margins are too slim," they said.
Anyway, I have yet to open the box of pilchards but once I walked into their cold room and saw the range of stuff, I just had to get more than bait. ;D ;D ;D
So I bought:-
15 kg box of pilchards $65
5 kg box of smoked cod $50
1 kg vacuum pack of sliced smoked salmon $30
5 kg box of green banana prawns $70
The pillies and the prawns will be used as bait but it is all food quality stuff. All but the smoked salmon was frozen in boxes and the smoked salmon was refrigerated (ie not frozen)
I do like smoked cod and am often disappointed with what we buy in the supermarkets because it is thawed and sometimes it seems to have a limited shelf life when we get it home. So I am delighted to buy it frozen in bulk and just take some out of the freezer when needed. The smoked cod is in individually blue plastic wrapped pieces.
Many thanks to Straddie and Cheech for making these guys known to us. :)
Buying pillies at $4.33 per kg is much better than buying them retail if one intends to hit the bay often. :)

I always buy my pillies from water tower bait and tackle. They seem to be fresh from them.

Yeah I also use Water Towers. Just got a 15kg box for $65. I believe they will generally have pillies in 3 sizes that you can choose from. Never had a bad batch yet.
