Hi All,

Been ages since I've been on Ausfish, mainly due to the fact I'm now living in Launceston and will be until October! Sorry and Sad to hear about the Oil spill mess, hope it all cleans up ok. :'(

Since I can't fish for Threadies in the river I've taken to fishing the beaches, rivers and lakes of Tassie and all I can say is the fishing is great down here! Nailed this Brown Trout on a #3 weight rod, 4lb tippet, 45mins from home yesterday:D :D Being a total novice to fly fishing for trout, this is my 4th one on fly and a PB. Went 5 pounds and 61cm. Was eating grasshoppers 2m from the bank and couldn't resist a fly. 5minutes later a big Copperhead (snake) was sunning himself right where the photo was taken. Only 3 species of snakes in Tassie and I found one of the nasty ones! Wasn't worried about us, plenty of grasshoppers to keep it busy! Slid into the water before we could get a photo.

Surf is full of Aust. Salmon and Flathead, Abalone and oysters everywhere and looking for a cray next week-end if the weather is good! Water is a tad cold however:o

Hope the fish are still biting.

Cheers Richo

Hi Richo,
I have been planning to take the caravan down to Tassie some time one summer. Could I get enough fish from the beach or is it worthwhile bringing my 3.7M car-topper down (I am not into fly fishing!!).
Cheers,
BillB

Definately take the boat, I'm kicking myself for not taking mine. Plenty of fish off the beaches but a boat is the go for the lakes. Trolling spinners gets plenty of good fish! Will give Bronte a go, Arthur's lake is very low at present which is a bit sad but Wood's Lake has been fishing well

One week before the full-moon, cold and nasty SW-W winds 20-30knots, rain turned to ice (or snowflakes not sure) = great fishing at woods lake! Spinning 'Ashley's' off The bank :D :D

Good stuff richo1. Whats the go with the clear vane type thing in front of the lure? Massive gobs on those brownies. Ben

top stuff again richo the biger trout looks a little slabby in the pic or is it just the way the pic was taken ,blooey if its the D shape object your talking about it ia an antikink for the spinners ,they spin around very quickly and if you didnt have them even with a swivvle you would get serious line twist and some unbeleivable reel tangles after about 20 casts

As Warrior says, they stop line twist a must have with Ashley spinners. Have them about 40cm above the lure with a 6 - 8 pound mono trace. Yeah the big trout had a big head but was long and lean. It was longer than my PB by 2cm but not as heavy.

Geez Richo,
Keep it quite - if you keep telling them how good it is down there - they'll all be bloody on a plane and invading the place.
Leaving last year was hard but we've got plans to return on a more semi permanent basis in the future.
If you get really serious plan a hiking fishing trips through the Wester Tier Lakes. It is honestly one of the best trips you can ever imagine.
Once you get into cray fishing - well there's no turning back.
