sorry i meant mini size barra::).

scott & me hit the lakes (t'ville) on saturday night, the first couple of hours went by with no hits than scott lost his popper to a tree. time for a move, headed for a good spot that i know of & you guessed it ppl there already fishing. a quick think from scott had us heading to another spot, here we went on casting our small poppers for a while with still no result... i was starting to crack the sh$%#s by now cause i could not get my popper to "blop" so with a bit of help from scott i started to get it right. not so long after & as my tinny little popper came across some sand that was out in front of a storm water drain... slamed!
the fight...well:P there was none, but still i had my first barra on popper;D

now scott has never got one on popper & i think i rubbed it in a bit;)
but not to be out done scott got smacked right at his feet & got a little fright:o.
up came another little barra on popper, scott's first;D.

than i went out last night fishing with a mate (might not be soon).
we went down the ross river chasing whatever, the end result was 1.. 76cm queenie & 1.. 52cm jack, dont have a pic of the jack (left camera at home:().
than spent 2hrs rowing home against the current (his boat) as the pull cord would not grab>:(>:(>:(. droped a nice size barra on live mullet(7inch long mullet).

wow, monsters, well they hit like monsters anyway. Still got to take that front hook off the poppers though, such a pain in the arse getting caught on the leader all the time.

Great catch guys,

What happened to the ramorea Scotty I have heard so much about I know it was at the lake however I am sure there is at least a catfish in there for you catch.

Ah it's all good, I remember getting into micro barra at Saltwater Creek and having a ton of fun. I have never caught a barra on a popper before, nice work!

nic,

both barra hit the poppers with alot of force & when the poppers were "standing still" after a short flick, just awesome. i for 1 will keep doing it!

C'mon fellas, how about some recognition here...

As the Ausfish/Townsville lakes popperring pioneer, I think I deserve a mention...:-/ :'( ::)

And Badbubby before me whose Blogspot I've found most useful.;D

Where'd you get the jack Ron?

Mozza

mozza,
first, scott reckons that you lie about that spot cause there's no fish there, LOL.
& YES PPL MOZZA TOLD ME ABOUT THE LAKES & HOW TO DO IT SO FULL CREDIT TO MOZZA.
the jack came from a little creek that runs off the ross in behind (Savannah).
i think it's called tom Nicholas. it's where the power lines go across the ross (railway estate), he took a little live mullet & he was sitting under some branches that hung over the water. very nice to eat (had him last night for tea).
i lost a thumper of a barra behind the old dump just on dark, we were in a little flat bottom with a 2.3 evinrude which broke down & we had to paddle back to the boatramp.
when do you want to go down to the lakes "my master"LOL.

yeah donnu what it is about those friggin trees, I just can't avoid them. I guess I'll have to more and more to improve my casting....what a shame.

There's plenty of barra down there, just not where we were, all about 50m out of casting range. I reckon mozza goes down with a beach rod to flick the popper out that far.

jt,
the big ones are not around in numbers yet?
thats to say not many have been caught.
might have been to much fresh up here, i did hear that on the other side of the island (sea side) that they were stacked up on top of each other & they were big ones.
