Hey fellas - My TLD 20's "clicker" stopped working this morning....Is this something easily fixed, or do I need to send her in for repairs?

Gday Mick could just be that the click pawl is sticking because of the grease going a bit hard or some corrosion. If you got mechanical nouse it's not a scary job to pull apart and have a looksee. Just keep everything in order as you take off and put back on the same way. Do you have your schematics manual? helps with seeing what goes where.

Thanks Dave - Yep - Got the schematics manual...do I give the pawl a clean, then re-grease?

Yes mate give a good clean in metho then re-grease,, an old toothbrush makes a good scrubber. Have a look for other sus looking parts.

grimesy, your on the right track mate, no need to overgrease the inners of that reel, too much will only cause you more grief.

Pulled it apart, and the click gear appars to be the problem...it's falls off the "shaft" really easily(See pic - Not my reel, "borrowed" pic from another sites tld15 rebuild howto).....guessing I simply replace this?

I would find it hard to believe that a ratchet (clicker) gear would fail, there is no load on it in any way, (but it could) are you sure it is not the pawl stuck/broken?

Hi Noel,
Yes - Clicker gear does not look like it has failed (See EXTREMELY poor pics from my phone)....what appears to happen is when I put the preprogram dial back on, and tighten it, the spool is "pulled" towards the handle/preprogram dial side of the reel, and the clicker gear falls off(I can hear it rattle around)...hoping someone can help!

Mick does the click gear just sit on the dohicky? What stops it from spinning? I take it you've tried to stand it on the side of the reel so it can't fall off, then put it together. Have you tried a touch of grease on the inside of the gear for a bit of friction?

Hey Dave - Gear sort of "clicks" on - In the pic I posted yesterday, you can sort of see the two flat ridges on the shaft(They stop it spinning).
I'll try pulling it apart/put back together again shortly..

Had another look last night, and it does look like the "shaft" where the click gear sits has worn edges, hence why it is falling off so easily.
Called Shimano customer service in Syd, told rep. what was happening, and he said that yep, I need a replacement click gear(Part 98) - He took my address details and said he would ship it up no charge straight away....happy days!
Mick.

Good to hear Mick. At least you've gained some knowledge to what's inside and you'll be able to service your reels.
You only need to worry when you've got parts left over. ;D

What, you wore it out? Lots of big screamimg strikes while trolling? Or are you one of these champs that fishes with their ratchet permanently on?

Reels pretty new(Less than 12 months)...fair few good runs, and no, don't fish with ratchet permanently on.
Shimano tech seemed to indicate that he'd seen a few that required replacing of late.

Just stirring.
I've had the ratchet fail a few times on one of my TLD 15's. Always when trolling pink squid and a Mackrell strikes, it would scream then just go silent. After opening it up I found the little pawl had just jumped out of the copper spring thing. Don't know how it does it but it's just amatter of putting it back and reasembling the reel.
Yours is oviously a more serious problem though.
