After recently moving from Brisbane to Hervey Bay, I was keen to get out and see if the fishing was as good up here as it is in Moreton Bay.;)
The rain clouds finally opened up for a couple of days over the weekend, so I decided to head out with one of my mates from work, Sippo.
Without much knowledge of the area, we stuck to the well documented spots not far from the Boat Harbour, and leaving the ramp at 5:30, found our first decent show on the sounder by 6:00. Anchor's away and a couple of minutes later we pickup a nice little livie which I threw on the overhead and sent back down in the hope of something bigger.;)
Over the next 20 mins - 1/2 hour we saw a couple of undersized species, including a borderline purple tuskfish, which went back to fight another day.....
A couple of minutes later... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzztttttttttttttttttt, the livies been smashed :o , and I grab the rod and settle in for what turns out to be a 30 min fight.
Couple of minutes later our first keeper hits the deck, a nice golden trevally (I've heard the area is known for them). Didn't have a scale, so don't know what it weighed, but it measured 90cm. ;D
With not a lot of ice on board, we continue for a bit longer, but decide to make use of the beautiful conditions and blow the cobwebs out of the motor and shoot across to Fraser and back doing 45mph, and get back to the ramp by 10am.
All in all a great first trip out in the bay, hope there's many more to follow.
