drove past the wall at somerset on friday afternoon. They were letting water from both pipes . Stunk like raw sewrage. People complaining against sewrage recycling for drinking water should go and smell what is on the bottom of our current water storage dams. Maybe the treated water is cleaner.

Why was this moved from the general area? It has more relevance than just freshwater fishing chat. It's what we drink.

They want to be careful - soon Wivenhoe will be at 40%, and people will be asking why they're letting water out of it when it's not full. They have to keep it at 40% for flood mitigation...

I have been waiting to hear some figures on the two dams.
So Somerset is full at 95 plus and Wivenhoe is full at around 40.
There is some good water coming down the Stanley at present, its running at a metre over some of my good holes.
Sit back and service the reels. oil the swivels and sharpen the hooks until it settles.;)

Wivenhoe has a storage capacity of about 1.1 ML...and that is what the % is listed on. It also has a capacity of a further 1.4ML in times of flood.
Water is released from Wivenhoe into the Brisbane River and it is taken from there by the Mt Crosby treatment plant to supply our water.

Pin is spot on there, whenever you hear the % of any dam they never include the flood reserve as it's needed to be released asap after the flood. Sounds funny but when Wivenhoe is at 100% it then has about the same amount in flood reserve (another 100%)
At the moment Whivenhoe is at 32% and if they let every drop of water out of Somerset into it, Wivenhoe would only come up to 60%, it's that big!
From the SEQWater web site for your info
Water Storage Status Table as at 26/02/09
Item--------------Wivenhoe---Somerset---North Pine---SEQWater Totals
When 100% (ML)------1,165,240-----379,850------214,960----------1,760,050

Percentage in Storage---32.25%-----93.32%-------45.58%-------------47.06%
Change since yesterday_-0.090%__+0.210%___+0.059%_______-0.007%

Thanks for clarifying that Pinhead & M62. There's alot of BS that goes around about the dams, storage capacity & percentages. All of the "correct" info is there for the finding.
Need lots & lots & lots more water to fill Big Dubya, 2 gates at Somersault for a month might put a dent in it, only if the Brisbane & Stanley ribas were in flood the whole time.
Cheers,
fitzy..
