Is Days Gutter part of the existing green zone??
The area is also home to lots of good sandcrabs in the weedbeds just coming into dusk. Unfortunately it is also home to thousands of razorfish so footwear is essential.

Does anyone target the Razorfish? I have heard they are quite a delicacy. But i believe you need special tongs to get em out of the sand. Is it Legal?

yeah its legal ive tried them personaly the muscle in them isnt worth the effort and razor shells are to sharp, and days gutter is only a go slow zone at this stage, oh yeah me and the mate managed 13kg of tigers i gave him half because he helped pull the drag net so i get stuck with 7kg, nice size to all around the 15cm mark ill post some pics in the morning

Jack
you mentioned a deep hole, but used a drag net, they must be pretty widely spread over there ?

well i go up to my neck and my mate stays on the bank, if you cast net for them you only get a couple a cast there to spread out, well i only have 7kg my mates family has already eaten theres im about to cook mine, they still dont go that far

What are your thoughts on using a drag net around creeks and rivers.?
I used to wade out as far as i could at pinkenba, to still be able to throw my castnet, till a mate pointed out he considered me sharkbait.
When I thought about it, wading the river at midnight was a bit dicey.I dont do it now, dont get many prawns either.

Be particularly careful in Day's Gutter. Just over the road is Amity and we all know what happened there a short while ago. No matter how many prawn's i'd be gar'td, never w3ould I be up to my neck in water there. Seen toooooo many 'things'

Lizard man,
I still do a bit of dragging in the ocean.....I enjoy it as another form of fishing, plus the exercise and fun that I get as well as the thrill of "whats in the net"
I would however steer away from murky deep waters, like you said. clear waters in gutters oceanside i think are less risky. we also use to take turns swimming out to a moored boat at 3am in the morning before heading offshore, A practice I am keep to now stop.
Have you been grabbed by a shark before whilst dragging a net? If so, it would definitely be an enlightening experience.

Mark, I agree totally mate. Love to feel the net kicking with life. Kinda the same with a cast net or bringing up a crab pot. The anticipation is the best thing. And it is good exercise, especially against the current.
Yup, in nice clear water the grey suits(and most other creatures) are more likely to distinguish what you are before they get to you, and not come in for an investigative bite. My mates and I used to get on the sauce on a Friday or Saturday night and head down to Wellington Point and swim out to the first channel markers and back. MADNESS! I landed a 5 foot reefie from the end of that jetty on a big squid head one night a few years later.;D Now a reefie probably won't come in for a look and a chomp, but a bull will.
Never been bitten/grabbed by one. Never had one in the net. Though that would be unreal, providing it was only little. Little bugger would probably make a mess of the net though.>:( Had a few lizards which is always good. And the odd ray, which gets you moving at 8am on a cold winter morning.
Cheers,
Adam

How many of you have been bitten by a shark? How many of you know someone who has been bitten by a shark? How many of you know someone who knows some who has been bitten by a shark? How many of you know someone who has been injured or killed in a car accident? Think about that the next time you drive to the ramp and then worry about a drag net in waist deep water.
Balls? get some :)
Meant to amuse not offend
Totally know wat u mean but u dont drive the wrong way down a motorway at nite with no lights on either!!!;)

WOW some strong words being said here, hahaha hi guys back from holidays so thought ide add some info, days gutter is very clear water, "yes" i have been bitten by a shark "yes" while drag netting put me out of action for 2 months, trust me i think twice now, this lagoon is the only bit of water on the weed flats and its not big enough to hold large sharks, i still check though, i do get by-catch alot of flatties, stingrays, crabs of all sorts and lots off stone fish, bullroute and happy moments, the prawns are not easy as said drag netting is a work out, i let alot of fish go but with prawns im sorry none go back and plus i never let myself get close to my limit, might go get some more this week some time, ill give a yell out if i need a hand?

I wonder if the young bloke around Sydney at dawn this morning is amused? He's lucky he's got balls left.... he's only minus a bit of thigh and calf.
Balls... Got 'em, use 'em, and want to keep 'em. :)
