I am unsure whether I should be using a 1/6oz or 1/4oz jighead for my SP fishing off the rocks.
I like the way the 1.6oz sinks, the action is slower and more natural looking, but i can barely cast out past the rocks. Only a few metres in front of me. I dont think there is enough distance for me to even work the plastic.
The 1/4oz lets me cast a lot further but it sinks noticeably faster and looks less realistic.
What to do?
Also does the shape of the lead head make a difference ie rounded or triangular

hey mate what gear are you using? down sizing your gear may help with the distence you cast or if u can get your hand on a longer rod might help also fishing different wind directions will help u. iv found that plastics with big tails hold the 1/4oz head up abit longer. i use 1/4oz a fair bit an u get use to the big heavy weight i havnt had a problem with them when it comes to not being realistic but i guess styles may have a differetn effect. sorry i couldnt help any more
cheers

hey walugi, dont be afraid of using something up a little in weight like a 3/8 or something like that, but I would lean towards the 1/4 or 3/8 option, unless you are using say the jerkshads in the 5'' I would go with a 3/8. I tend to find that depending on your tidal flow ( I am unsure of the area your fishing or what your targeting) the the grubs in 3'' do well on the lighter weights for casting anyway but I have managed a few flatties on the 3/8 size in the 3'' also. I would stick to the 1/6 for the 2'' stuff or the shrimps. Just as a guide remember if the weight is to light it won't work as well in the water anyway, try to match it to the condition and tidal flow etc. Hope my little rant is helpful and most of all Good Luck :)
