Members,

I am off to a little place called Woodgate for some relaxation and some serious fishing towing up a new 1/2 cabin tinny with 115 hp .
I have no ides of the fishing up there as i am a first timer.I would love to fish in a 15 km radius out from Woodgate but have no ides of species to target or have any marks.
I have had a look on google and there seems to be a 8 mile reef off Burrum heads, an artifial reef just off Woodgate beach and a four mile reef south of Elliot heads for which i managed to get some basic marks.
Any advice members could give me would be deeply appreciated . Also if anyone could PM me some other marks to get me going would also be very helpful.

I think they are the main 3 places that youve named already. the other would be the northern gutter coming out of Burrum River.

Use the search function and search on woodgate, you should find some reports.

Just came back up from a long weekend up there. We headed out from the woodgate beach ramp to the artifical reef a km or so off shore. Dont have any marks as we dont have gps, but there are normally plenty of boats out there early morning, so just go to where they are.

For a 4 hour session we ended up with 8 Mackeral 70cm+ and a couple of sladey bream to about 60 cm or so... The sladeys went back because they are shi#house to eat.

Careful[ using teh boat ramp on t he beach as the waves can get a little steep at times.

I have been told there is a great spot where locals dumped washing machines many years ago.....

Hi Greggo

I go to Woodgate for a week's holidays every year.

Its a great spot for a fish and a relaxing break. Macks, snapper, tuna, grassies. noahs etc all within the sort of range you are considering.

Its quite different territory up in Hervey Bay - most structure is just a few lumps and bumps and nothing as dramatic like pinnacles that you see offshore from Brisbane and the Coasts - generally very flat with just a few bits of rubble and that's where you'll find the fish.

I have some marks you are welcome to if you'd like to PM me I can send them to you. Let me know what brand/model GPS you have as well - if Lowrance I can just send you a file you can upload direct. I've also marked the green zones in it already.

I don't use the ramp onto the main beach near the Pub - its very exposed to winds from SE to NE and unless weather is very good it gets a bit ugly to retrieve there, especially if you don't like getting salt water all over your car! Its OK if you're out for a quick early trip and back before any wind is up, I suppose.

I always use the ramp up the Burrum River at Walker's Point - just follow the road south and you'll find the signs - there's only one road to Walker's Pt so you can't miss it. There is a very good 2 lane ramp there that's excellent for even larger boats - a bit slippery at the end at low tide and subject to current, but really not much drama if you've got a good deckie to assist you. Plenty of carparks and I've never had any dramas there with people interfering with car or trailer, nor heard of any problems.

It's only a 5 or 6 minute run out thru the leads and you're in the Bay - no Bar crossing involved. Then you can head north to Woodgate or ESE to the Burrum 6 mile or 8 mile reefs, or beyond.
