Has anyone here had any direct experience with either of these two light spinning rods in the 1-3kg range, as I am considering which one to get? The Egrells are nice, rated as 1-5kg, and are a bit cheaper, but the Loomis has a great warranty/replacement policy and are a quality rod also.

Any thoughts appreciated.....:-/

thanks

Peter

Both nice options. In my opinion they are 2 of the best rods in the class.

I went for the S1 - 7 purely for the way it felt coupled with the reel i put on it. 2000 certate.

Its my favourite set up and the rod sets hooks like a dream.

Thanks to all for the replies, it's a hard one but I'm leaning towards the Egrell for some reason. I already have a Loomis DSR820 in GL2 & also a DSR 822 and I love them both. Maybe it is the thought of something a bit different that appeals...

cheers

The DSR820s (GLX) is a really sweet rod ........ top knotch blank - however they are not value for money (IMHO) against a rod like an Egrell.

I have the loomis matched with a stella 2500 and find it a beautiful combo, bought both os when the dollar was good. You wont have any of the corrosion issues on the runners when you go the loomis.

Don't agree BN, the GL2 DRS820 is a great rod, sensitive, strong & good value. I have a few loomis rods including a GLX BSR 852 which I got from the US for about $400 AUD, but I don't think they are worth the $700 AUD price tag they cost here. GLX is good but not worth twice the price IMHO.

i never said the gl2 was a bad rod (i owned 2 of them at one point before i upgraded)
have u fished with the glx 820? i think its defenently worth double the gl2
remember you are also paying a bit for for a loomis rod because of the expenditure warentee

gee .... I find that there is a huge difference between GL3 & IMX ......... let alone GL2 Vs GLX (chalk & cheese)
when I was landing GLX for $350ish 12 months ago .......... It was great value & made it more attractive than most of the best of the local stuff ........ but today no its not worth it ....... IMO

I was given a couple of IMX rods in 1989 by Gary Loomis when he did a promotional tour in Australia.
I still have both of these magnificent rods, one a factory produced standard, the other a factory custom.
Both were built line class perfect and perform like no other rod I’ve used in their respective classes.
Graham Todd sent me 4 Loomis rods many years later to evaluate. These were subsequently sent back with unfavourable comments.
Although built by “big named rod builders” my opinion & irrespective of the blank type, seem to be built by formula not befitting the blank.
I wouldn’t spend the money on a modern built Loomis, however, having said that, I haven’t had enough to do with Egrell to confidently comment on them, there make-up or performance.

I have both. Egrell is a much better casting rod. It's a tad lighter in the action than the DSR. The loomis warranty is only better if you do something dumb and break the rod. If you genuinely break an Egrell on a fish, and not on a ceiling fan the Egrell warranty is just that, a warranty. The Loomis warranty is that you get to buy a replacement at it's true market value. I'd buy another Egrell before I bought another Loomis. I'd also put the Bream Buster in the same bucket as the Loomis. I actually sold mine to buy an Egrell.

That's what I'm saying Chris, GLX rods are great but not worth the current asking price of $700. I got 2 loomis's from the US when the $ was high and they were great value then. Sadly those daze are gone.......:'(

Great feedback , thanks Aussiebasser. You are right about the loomis warranty & it shouldn't be needed if you take care, but sometimes shit just happens I guess. Still I'd like to see Egrell offer a similar warranty on his products, then he would blow loomis out of the water with sales of a better product.

cheers
