With all of the shit weather of late, meaning most of the bay and deffinately offshore fishing out of the question thought I would give fresh water a go.

First attempt of dam fishing was at Borumba dam the weekend just gone. As I have never done it before or neither have my mates headed down to Duncs at Fish Head and hit him up for a few quick pointers.

We where there for one night which gave us an afternoon fish and a morning fish. After we unpacked and set up the tents we thought lets give a go, goal was first try and catch a fish as we had no idea.

Two of my mates came along as well as my wife. We decided to cover a range of lures one stick bait, one spinner bait and one plastic (what we know best). Half an hour into it and Mark (ausfish member plastic fantastic) hooks and lands his first bass and the first for the boat 43cms of freshwater bass. The rest of the day saw about 5500 casts with a variation of lures for no more return and we covered a lot of ground. No surface action at all, water temp was 26.5-27 degrees celsius is this a high temp for dams shutting fish down??

At the boat ramp we saw a couple of kids and they said they had better luck trolling. So early next morning we gave surface casting another go until all of the wake boarders turned up, but yet again no luck so we thought we would give trolling a quick go. Ended up getting four more bass nothing of any large variety but we all ended up with one so they where all pb's. Lures that did the damage where jackals on the troll.

In all we where happy to come away with all getting a couple, we thought there would have been a good chance we wouldn't even raise one. Good to try something new and actually catch something.

Andrew.
Photo is of mark with is 43cm pb.

Nice work guys, now u have an alternative if it's no good out to sea.

My 2 bobs worth, finesse and quietness gets the Bass and don't worry if u can't see any surface activity, they r there, the sneaky little buggers.

Heaps easier to clean the gear down after a trip in the fresh hey.

Cheer's Pete.

Thanks guys,
Pete we basically used the electric to get around most of the weekend and even then used that only when necessary, we tried to be as quiet as possible.
