Father in law and I hit Maroon early this morning for a quick surface session. We were at our first spot by 4.30am and there weren’t too many busting up on top. First cast with my dog x, slowly walking it back a fish boils up behind it and has a go at it, but it miss the hooks! DAM! My hearts now racing so I recast towards the same bank and about 5 meters off the bank.... BANG! SPLASH! SPLASH! Zzzzzzzzzzz!!!! Pop! DAM! Blown! I just stood there in awe; I got absolutely pumbled by a good fish and lost my favrioute colour lure. The father in law sat there giggling to himself on how I got dusted. Lol! “Oh well” I said retied on another and out I cast again. Few minutes later walking the lure back.... BOOM! I’m on! This time it was well hooked. Landed a healthy looking Bass, he was 32cm, so got a quick photo and released the little fella. Then nothing for the next hour so we decided to go deep around the live trees. I hooked up 3 times with jackals but kept pulling the hooks on them, dam braid! Lol! The father in law didn’t hook on one fish at all! Not even a touch! Lol! We were back at ramp by 8:30am and enjoyed a great shut down morning! I guess I got the last laugh landing the only fish. Lol! This morning was a very overcast day with light sprinkles around and the temp was roughly 22-23degrees. The water temp was 26-27 degrees. Can’t wait until the next session!!

nice work smoked.... i have caught all my bass on the bank opposite the boat ramp just trolling, have only been there 3 times.... i tried some surface lures just around the first point to the right off some weed with zero success.... i did see some fish flickin the top of the water, but would that just be bony bream or bass?? any other tips on the surface??

I’m think there are any boney bream stocked in Maroon Dam but I’m not 100% sure. I’m think the bass main food source in Maroon are insects and crustaceans. I’ve been working surface lures since I have gone there and in the past 2 outings I finally get results. I mainly work the edges with poppers and pencil baits All over the dam. Normally Ill scout around for where they busting.
