Travelled up to Paradise dam 24th for a look , I was very suprised to find that this dam is by far one of the best I have visited , boat ramp perfect , no trailer parking issues , grounds & ammenities excellent. The only downside is that this dam has yet to be stocked with native species under a SIP. The funds are there but no stocking program underway as yet. The Ranger did inform me that bass , yellowbelly & barramundi have all been caught out of the dam from small stocks being released in the past as a test program .The focus is on the study of lungfish & threatened turtle species which to my sightings were in abundance.
The other species I did get sighting of were the wakeboard ,jetski & watertube varieties!! They only use about 1km of waterway which leaves about 30km plus for fishing, so crack the jar with the $80000 sitting in limbo & get on with it.
This dam should be a hot spot in the future for fishing @ about 60% at the time of writting & plenty of bait fish watertemps @ 30 degress the fingerlings should thrive.
I had an enjoyable time & I did manage some spangled perch on poppers.

They have been stocking the Burnett River upstream of Paradise Dam with Australian Bass, Yellowbelly and Barramundi for many years now.

They really need to start stocking that dam ASAP as it will take a while for the fish to reach legal size.

With the increase in stillwater/weedbeds, the lungfish and turtles will prosper. You just have to look at the Somerset, Wyvenhoe and North Pine to see how well lungfish and turtle prosper.

IMO. that research project is simply more 'green pandering'.
