had a Hoo hooked up, peeling line like no tomorrow, then all of a sudden the braid breaks about 4" above the reel.......... what could this be caused by?? not spooled on right? this is what im thinking, line cutting line as it digs in, braid is Daiwa HS8 in 50lb, i checked the first eye on the rod and all is good, gets me buggered.............

Mate had the same thing a little while ago, found a minute chip in the guide nearest the reel.doesnt give you much confidence after it happens though.

Been happening on my river raider, had 20lbs castaway and 8lbs leader got snagged the braid broke first :|. Got me buggered I swear i've been up and down all the guides on that rod and can't see a fault. Had a similar problem with a previous rod/line ended up I had a cracked guide so would be the first place i'd look anyway

If spinning reel , check the roller on the bailarm or the bailarm itself and if baitcaster , check the levelwind . Both may have something deposited on them that chaffe the braided line .

thanks all, have checked guides and roller, all be ok, line is not that old, have never used any cleaners near the line, might make a few calls to see if there is a problem with this braid

Hi Daz

I was having trouble with heavy braid breaking when I cast big taipans and not when I tested it

I was watching it come off the reel and I noticed it had tightened across itself and as it came of it grabbed under other loops and ping, new shiny needed

after that I lay the braid in a wider zig zag over the spool and have had no more troubles

hope it helps
