Got a bit of an eye opener last week; went to Big W and a B52 (small version) was $8.92. I was going to get 6 but only 1 available
Went to A dedicated tackle store, same lure $14.95. Went to Kmart, price was $13.99 Then on to A Mart and the price was $ 15.00 and lastly to BCF and the price was $15.65....Bugga!! An amazing price variation...Will NOT be buying at BCF.

I can't see how there could be nearly double the price difference between old stock and new stock,,assuming no changes in the lure itself.
More like... real price...profiteering? Same deal if you buy a new CD from Big W and a CD from a HMG. BIG $ difference.

Lures at Big W are always at very competitive prices. Before Xmas their price on Gulps was 6.99 (not on special, just shelf price). I'm not sure if that was moving out old stock or not but it wasn't a special (no discontinued sticker either). I haven't been back since to check if that was the case and that was in 2 different stores. They also had tonnes of the Berkeley hard bodies all for $2.99.

Yep, Big W or K-Mart are often a good place to score a few cheap lures/tackle.....especially when they have their 25-30% off sales going.
Some stores only have a pretty limited range though depending on where you live.

This all happened 30th Dec. within 1 hour, which seems like profiteering by BCF. Can understand the fishing tackle store's prices, competing with the big department stores. Kmart had a 30% sale on, but not for fishing accessories, only rod/reel combos!!!
My local Big W is very tardy with fishing gear...I suppose the bloke that gets the gear in hasn't much of a handle on what items sell. Or, he/she just waits until stock is completely depleted and then buys a few of the same, to last another few months on the shelf.

I don't like BCF to pricey for me. Being a large outfit does'nt always equate to savings. Best to stick with the W or keep your eyes peeled for the bargains.

for a while now the only place i have been going for berkley and a couple of other products has been the big W. the prices have spoken for themselves for a fair while now, whether it be fireline ($22 shelf) gulp ($6.99 shelf) vanish ($8.99)
even the other day they had Barra Classics on sale for 11 bucks!
the power of bulk buying in shopping chain.
one would think a chain like bcf would be doing near the same..

at least the price of lures etc at bcf will keep the local tackle shops in buisiness, with the buying power they must have and by being greedy actually helps the local market and the little guy who has had his shop for 20 years, nerang bait and tackle is a prime example, his shop used to be stuffed into the smallest corner of the camping shop, now he has a whole shed. apart from the service ( which can be good and bad) prices are cheap, compare that to bcf or tackle world aka doug burts ,where a tt lures metal vib lure cost $19 and nerang $9.95.
i like the fact that big buisiness is greedy, that way i can still get a bargain and help out the little guy.
well enough dribble from me
Hi Bobby
MO... TACKLE would have the most consistently low prices I've seen ($11.50 for the B-52 130mm) ...... $14-15 is pretty standard.
Big W do sell certain lures & plastics at quite low prices - the trouble is the range is small & stock limited ..... you'll probably find that they had a special on at the time ......
shame you didn't get there earlier:'(

When i need a few things or am wanting something dearer i always go Mo Tackle. Other than that i would rather pay my local tackle shop a couple of $$ more than i could at Big W or any other place like BCF etc. He's got a family to feed and also supports our sport of fishing. Also the more i have supported my local tackle shop the better the prices have been for me. He has nearly matched MO prices a couple of times which ment he got the sale and i had the gear in my hand that day.
Cheers
