I hope you all had a good xmas and got the things you where after ,yesterday i went for a charter of the goldie with GAV from SEAPROBE CHARTERS ,we left the broad water with high hopes of getting onto some of the small blacks that have been of the goldcoast . With my new tyrnos 20 filled with 10kg and my blueangel cocky on i had high hopes , we started trolling almost straight away in 35mt of water heading north towards the pin bar where they have caught 30+ fish over the last couple of weeks so hopes were high .We hadn't been trolling for 30min when of went a lure and it was on a small black diving across the water after a short fight we released him and sent him on his way to fight another day . We kept heading north and as we approached toward the pin there were boats every where ,the birds weren't working as they had been and bait schools were scattered we trolled this area for no fish for a while, so GAV decided to head south toward the gravel patch . As we trolled south we saw what was left of a pallet floating on the water so we headed over towad it with expectation of a dollie ,and sure enough as we drove by 2 lures went of their heads and dollies were diving around we landed both they were about a meter long and solid so in the esky they went . GAV decided to keep heading south with no results until we got to the patch then another black was hooked caught and released this same this happened twice more so we ended up with 4 from marlin all about 20kg and 2 nice dollies so all around a good day was had by all the guys that came from toowomba thought it was great seeing the billies diving around the place . we also saw a couple of marlin relaxing on the water but we could not tempt them but once again SEAPROBE boys did the job for us so we where all more than happy i know he is fairly busy at the moment but if you want a charter with someone who goes the extra mile to get you on Phone SEAPROBE on 0400312330 and i am sure they will help you ....matt8-) 8-) 8-) 8-)

And a merry xmas and happy fish catching new year to you all....

Good one Matt, Ashley told me you were heading down the coast . Im hopefully heading to Mooloolaba on Monday to try my luck and see if they're any small blacks still around up that way. If no luck might try the Goldy on Friday. I got a Tyrnos 30 and a live fibre for xmas too cant wait to load up on the live fibre and see what all the rage is about. CHEERS BRENDAN.

Well done Matt, looks like another good day out with Gav and the boys. You would be getting frequent flyer points with Gav by now wouldn't you. Good to see you are getting out and getting some fish.

Not trying to get any secrets or anything but how many kilometers off shore from the seaway can one expect to start to have a good chance of hooking a small Black Marlin?
I have heard that they can be found quite close in at times.

OK, what I am getting at is this. I fish from a Kayak which has an electric motor and I have a range of about 10km return.
Some of you may have seen me the past couple of days about 2k-3k out and little south of the seaway trolling around early morning.

I know you all probably think I'm crazy. Not crazy enough to not carry a sounder/gps, handheld VHF radio and flare etc anyway.

The last couple of days I have been trolling a small skirted lure and a hard body lure.

I troll at around 4.5-5 knots. The small skirted lure seems to be working ok and gets a nice bubble trail happening.
But, I haven't even seen a fish yet let alone had a strike.

Hey JRJR,
Get in and go your hardest.
I got my first small black(20kg odd??) on saturday about 7am.
Without giving the game away we were a little south of the seaway and VERY close in . Well within your range.
Many Thanks to Phil T . All the credit is yours.

JRJR as the others have said they have been getting the odd one of the seaway so go hard with the paddling,if you see bait or dolphins working head that way and hang on . Can't wait to see your report out of the yak ,P.M sent ...matt

Sorry to hijack the Thread.

Great! Thanks for the words of advice and encouragement. I'm even keener than ever now that I have read the posts.
No paddling for me as I use a Rudder mounted electric motor. It's under the water so you can't even tell except for the fact I'm moving without any personal effort.
