Spent the morning crabbing with the grandkids off Wellington Point.
With the revised laws on kids and pots we were able to use 16 pots between us.
From 5:15 to 9:30 we managed only 3 legal crabs.

Pots were spread from the edge of the reef south of the ramp down to Ormiston in various depths trying to find where they were. Stacks of females but not many undersize males either. Used chicken frames for bait and used pots and witches hats.
Looks like its buying crabs for Xmas day again.

Did you wet a line as well?, i ventured out to mud this morning and threw a few pots out on the way, tally was zero crabs and zero squire, tally for squire in bay this year is 1 i think, bay has been very ordinary this last 12 months or longer.

Hi mate,
I had heard that the sandies have been a little quite of late, although I hope they improve again soon. At least you have enough for a sandwich or two and i'm sure your grandkids had a good morning anyway.

Merry Christmas

Went to Green this morning and dodged heaps of pots on the way back to Wello. Must have been 40 at least spread everywhere.

Got one 45cm squire, and heaps of just unders. Beautiful morning leaving at 3.30am and back in and at work before 9am.

Yeah, I was also at wello this morning and it was the best morning I have had for a long time weather wise. Caught quite a few small squire and sweeties and a heap of legal sized bream that were all returned. Ended up with 4 legal bucks out of the pots though.

It was a beautiful morning for sure, especially when you look at the winds of late. Shame about the lack of crabs but that's fishin'. Hopefully they'll be on again soon.

Hodges, a little secret for Wello.

I've been crabbing the area you talk of for many years.

Historically all the sandies go on holidays from that area a week before Christmas, also not enough run yesterday for good results. Come back again mid January and things should have improved.

I dropped some in about 5m water, yesterday ... 4 pots left for 5 hours ... most baits were untouched, one pot with a small buck and small jenny.
Fished Peel and swam around Horseshoe Bay, during the 5 hours, and only got one bream 25cm and Grassie 32cm for keepers. Very quiet with very little bait fish around. My daughter dropped a good snapper right at the boat ... "Going to slap his face next time she sees him", she reckons! LOL, she wouldn't know what a slap in the face is.
What a great morning after all the wind lately and the weather predictors got it right, thanks fellas.
Cheers :-)

i went to the sandhills tues, left 8 pots at green and got 5 sandies on my return, rebaited them and left overnight, pulled them out this morning for another 9, BUT, only 3 were bucks, the others were mofridites, {male/female crabs to the uninitiated , which are legal to keep, and in the past i have been told by fisheries if i dont want to keep them to kill them............but they taste good.........
a mofridite has the bottom like a female but comes to a point and has the apparartus of a male, and the "eggbag" is rubbery, not a sponge like a female......hope i explained this ok for those that are unaware
