Hi all
I'm looking to get some leader material for jewie fishing. I'm looking at black magic supple trace in 60 pound for the run of the mill jewie probably up to 15 kg, although it may be a while before i get one that size ::) ::) . What do you think about this set up? the alternative would be 60 lb schneider.
thanks for your help

G'Day Owen depends on how rough the terrain is your fishing. I use 50 for the friendly spots and up to 70 for the nasty areas and some times thats not enough. Brand is up to you but I dont think you'll go wrong with either of those.

I prefer Jinkai in 60lb for the bigger jews off the stones myself.

Hey guys thanks for the responses. I will go for the black magic if the store up the coast sells it, if not maybe the new leaders that platypus has put out, or schneider.
cheers

G'day mate!
55lb Schneider saw me through with a 12kg fish off the Ballina North Wall. I go up to 80lb for one or two very rough spots.
regards, Rob.

Rob, thanks for that.
i will be mainly fishing off the rocks. The spots arent as jagged as the breakwalls of northern NSW. Its mainly deeper water with the chance of abrasion when the rig washes around. Also, i will be fishing the surf more, however leader strength is much less important there, than on the rocks. If you haven't fished the rocks up in Qld on the sunny coast, around Double island point too, they aren't as tough as down south. I'm thinking the compromise of 60 lb will be adequate, I have an old spool of 40 lb line which i use for lighter stuff.
thanks all

If you are snelling 2 hooks the Jinkai is good because it doesn't have a memory and sits nicely. If you use a tough trace like schneider, or black magic tough trace, and if your snelled hooks don't line up properly, the natural twist of the line will bugger up your bait presentation. A more supple leader will sit nicer, but it depends on whether you need the tougher stuff for the rocks

Hi Mick
Yes i plan to snell the hooks, a pair of 8/0's. i was thinking i would use the black magic supple leader. Or the schneider, i figured i need the tougher stuff for the rocks. because abrasion can be a bit of a problem where i fish.
thanks for the help
Owen
