Hey, does anyone know what the deal is with the new greenzones and gps map plotter maps. I have a Lowrance lms527 gps map plotter which I got just over a year ago, does anyone know if lowrance will bring out updates (hopefully free) which will include the new greenzones, I really dont want to get caught out.

The GPS manufactures aren't obligated to make updated grren zones available, but most do at a price. You won't get these chart card for free. How long it will take will largely depend on the EPA and when they will make the data available to the manufacturers.
I think it took around 12-18months for Lowrance, Garmin etc to release the cards with updated green zones for the GBR so don't hold your breath.
It is only done as a selling point and as a convienience to the purchaser, but they come at a premium, you will pay more than what you would for a starndard card without them.
My advice, is to study the maps, and any spots to fish that you think may be inside any grren zones, avoid them until you get the updated card. If in doubt, don't fish there (for green zones), also applies to yellow zones, if you have any doubt, only use one line/hook.
Having lived and fished with the GBR zoning for 4 years now I know all the zoning that affects me without the aid of a gps, and If I go to a new area, I study the maps and learn where I can and can't fish before I drop a line, it would be wise for everyone concerned to follow suit.

They haven't made that sort of software available for the GBR in the last 4+ years, so why would they make is available for Moreton Bay, even before the zoning comes into force? I too find it hard to believe.
If they do it for Moreton, they better do it for the GBR or they'll have one hell of a shit fight on their hands.

As of just before Christmas the data was not available to electronic chart manuafacturers. With regards to the data being available to download with zone entered alarms ect. "Tell Him He's Dreaming".
