Hey mate, at times you will get them schooling up not 1km out from the front of reddcliffe. This doesn't happen every day though so you would need to get out there often to find them.. Also it tends to be Schoolies more than Spotties that come in that close but you never know your luck;) I have a 3.7 tinny with a 15 also and fish this area as often as I can (weather permitting). It does blow up quite bad in northerlies and South Easters so be careful of this (if its predicted to be over 10knots from these directions I don't go). also be careful around the clontarf point, I have seen many boats cut the corner and hit the reef flat out!

thanks bradon. what method do you use out there slugs an trolling or baits. if baits whats seems to work best as im not to sure where to pick up livies around there. also is there much on the bottom out aroudn there i fish in closer to redcliffe on the swallow reefs for squair but have never ventured out any futher. is it worth taking a rod for the bottom?

I would take a snapper (squire) rod and gear as well as a Mac rod mate, I have caught them on slugs but you need to have a few sizes as you need to "match the hatch" (size of the bait they are feeding on). but most of them I have caught on a floated Blue pillie behind the boat while drifting. I don't use wire either as I think this puts them off. use 50lb mono as a leader and don't muck around getting them in ;)
There isn't a lot of structure once you get 1km out, but the Mac's can and do come in quite close. I can remember getting 2 schoolies in front of Margate last year right next to the last leads from the beach ramp! but they weren't schooling up they had just been cruising by and liked the look of my floating bait.

Go off Wello or Green, or punt up between Peel and bird island on a good day, or head out from raby bay about midway to amity banks, or go out of the mouth of the river to the end of brisbane road and hang around there, or jig the brisbane road beacons or floats a few pillies past them, your sure to find something.
