Heading up to Tin Can on Wednesday for a week and am thinking of doing a day trip to Kingfisher. Looks like an hour or so each way but would like some local input or advice from anyone who has done the trip.
Have been up as far as Kauri before but anything to watch for the rest of the way.

Rod, I feel it would take more than an hour each way... :) . It is over 55k's.
A couple of reasons... firstly, the scenery... you'll be slowing down often to take in the wonderous sights. Fishing hot spots everywhere. 8-) :o
Sand banks..........::) ::)
Creeks that NEED exploring etc etc.
I reckon it is a day trip. If you go up to Gary's Anchorage and head in behind Stewart Island, it gets shallow but worth the detour.
The " Ceraodus " wreck is worth a stop over and if ya game enough and hit the right highish tide, a motor up Ungowa Creek is worth trying , simply to see the wreck. You'll be amazed at the size of this thing so far up a shallow creek.
As you travel, you may see a homemade jetty on Boom Boom islands.... great little fishing spot over a tide.;)
A good chart to have is the " Sunmap Fishing Guide "... Wide Bay Region... Double Island Point to Town of Seventeen Seventy. I have Edition 3.. dated 2001, but it is still revelant.
Lunch and Cocktail at ' The Sand Bar " at Kingfisher ( public access pool and bar ) with a swim to follow in the pool, and return home. Beware of the XOS March Flies... :o
Cheers Phill

Take plenty of fuel, plenty of sight seeing to do as lucky phil says. A couple of weeks ago 1 boat towed another into the maaroom ramp out of fuel. Had been to Turkey from tin can and ran out at fig tree on the way home. Lucky blokes to strike right people for help. Mate if you do it in a day you wont sleep again till you get back up there for a better look.

Thanks for the replies fellas.
Phill: with the wife and kids on board the scenery will be the go. Not a lot of fishing.......maybe.
Ivan: Ive got my own tame local at Tin Can that keeps the sandies up to us.
He's out everyday.
Tuff79 and elprez: thanks for the heads up.
Ive got 150liters on board and the 90 chews 18l an hour at 25knts.
And yep. May have to do it a couple of times.
Trucks packed and will do the boat in the morning. Then...we're off.
Talk to you lot in a week or so.
Rod.
