If you had to build racks for a duel cab hilux to take a 12' tinnie, would you bother to run some lenghts of steel from the back right thru to some uprights coming off the bull bar or can/could you get away with a cantilever set up???
cheers

G'day,
A 12' tinnie weighs nothing so aim to secure it above the tub. Do not create rigid structures above the chassis. It defeats the suspension and the chassis flex provided by the manufacturer and will wreck your truck.

Like what he said.
Fixed over tub only

I carried a 3.75m Quintrex Dart (before that a 3.5m Stacer) on a Hilux dual cab over about 40,000 KM, some of it rough dirt roads.
It was on Rhino racks on a Carryboy canopy, with a third 'bar' supported direct from the chassis at the rear. Loaded manually with rollers on the rear bar. Also had a basket under the boat to carry 'stuff'.
I now carry a 3.95 Sea Jay Angler on a 79 Series Toyota with Aluminum canopy. I load this one with a smal electric winch as it weighs 115 KG.
