Good day all,
Hade a big win in the Mart with a k on Sunday.
Have been looking at a Shimano Baitrunner 6500b/Catana 701 snapper light combo for a few months now with the plan of maybe purchasing at 20-30% discount. $269 down to $215-$190 ish maybe.
Was up that way on Sunday so i dropped in to see if it was still in their rack and yes it was,but alas the rod had had it's tip sheared off (around 25mm missing).
To cut a long story short i asked what they wanted for this damaged stock expecting a drop of around $70-$80 (the cost of the rod).
After consulting with her manager the check out girl gave me a price
$150.00 ;D
Shes now in my shed at a much cheaper price than any of their discounted sale prices.
A $6.00 tip and the rod is a slightly short go'er as well.
A WIN FOR THE LITTLE GUY.
I guess the moral of the story is the big chains don't know their stock to well and if you don't ask you will never know
Cheers

all that sort of stuff is fine, and I have had a couple of "wins" myself at times, but as a general rule, I stay as far away from any Supermarket tackle sections as I can, the only time I lurk around is if I have some time to kill and have nothing better to do, mostly they just have Department Store crap (naturally) and staffed by People who want to be somewhere else and who know bugger all about Fishing, but a win is a win, and good luck with it.

20%-30% discount on items such as Gulps, squidgies, name hooks and terminal tackle (mustard etc),Palano boxes, mid range name reels eg the baitrunner, symetres etc is all good hunting to me.My local sells at much to high a margin even with a discount (usally 10%)(small town sydrome). Its 60km to the next one so at times the k is my cheapest option if travel is involved.
The lack of stock knowledge was a good thing in this case.
Cheers

Wouldn’t most regular fisho’s already know what they want before entering a store.
Or do some research on a product before deciding.
Asking this forum on their thoughts on particular item.
An example with this post, knowing a bargain when u come across it,no matter who's selling it.
