out of date epirb

I've had to update my epirb like everyone else. Regarding my old one. Rather than getting rid of it, does anyone know what I have to do so that I can just use the strobe light for a marker out at the reef, while drifting. Perfect for this but what wires do I cut so a Blackhawk helicopter doesn't come and hover over me? Or do I wait till next year when they stop monitoring the frequency/unit and just turn it on? Big Brother is always watching. Paul

I would imagine that severing the wires to the antenna will stop it transmitting anything.

If you really want a strobe, there are plenty of stand-alone units available.
