What sort of breaking strain are you thinking of?

couldn't possibly beat fireline or other braid in the 4-8lb, 15-24kg mono for trolling and 30-80lb braid for livebaiting, jigging, casting and general bottom bashing. Never the cheap stuff! although fireline is pretty cheap.. :)

for spin reels.. gelspun cast real nicely.
fireline or stren mirco-fused for just about anything... but if i was to go over 15lb id move on to a round profile braid. remembering that 10lb fireline can withstance up to 25lbs of pressure.
i only ever use mono for heavy saltwater trolling.

I would have to go with the fireline for anything under the 8lb ish range, I run fireline 6lb on a shimano 2500 and raider bream 1 pce for SP's, I also have the fireline on my overhead at 14lb and prefer the fins platinum on anything over 9lb.... just my preference.
Hope it helps. :)
