Left Wide bay bar at about 9am for an overnighter out on the shelf or so we thought. Worked our way steadily to the shelf in good weather looking for new ground to fish along the way and not having a lot of success . When we hit the shelf at a couple of new marks I was happy to see a good quantity of bait and fish showing. First drop and about 8 kg of grunting trevally hit the deck next drop and I had something on that was pulling the kinks out of my line on the deck winch, unfortunately it turned out to be about 25 kg of AJ, or would have been had a shark not eaten half of him just below the boat. After this it all shut down so we headed for our red marks about a 25klm run away. On getting there we discovered the current was running so strong we couldn't fish this area which was very disappointing. The wind had also started to pick up so we made the call to go in shallower and head south where the current wasn't as bad. The wind really started to get up and made things very sloppy so we decided to have an early night. Awaking to sloppy seas in the morning we tried a few spots on the way back in for not a great deal of success. For the first time I would be going home from DI without a Red.
We learned a good deal from this trip so you just have to put some things down to experience:-/
I only have a couple of pic's but will post them soon.

Craig new rig looks great you'll have to bring her along for a run to the shelf when the current settles down. You'll have to park it well away from my poor old girl it'll make her look a bit shabby a flash rig like that;D ;D
Hi Kezza
I don't like having too many dry runs my freezer is starting to look very empty and there is nothing better than a feed of fresh Red Emperor!! Will have to be content with Parrot for now.

It's a bugger covering all that territory for nothing. You have my sympathy - I have plenty in the freezer after the weekend! ;D;D;D

Will be going again as soon as the weather comes good for an overnighter, hopefully the current isn't too strong the next time. Hard to tell with current, last year through summer we managed to fish out wide all be it with a fair amount of weight but it was doable. I will send you a pm when we are going next.

Not a problem Tim you sound like a real character from some of your posts I've read, would be a pleasure to have you along. Now with the new 200 series you'll be able to haul the 685 up to Tincan and get stuck into a few good fish. I'm very sorry I missed out on the 1770 M&G we were all set to go but the weather didn't play the game.

No Worries well the boat lives in hervey bay and can get some marks for out the other side of the bar so would be good to have some boats to go with, although you would want near perfect weather cause it is a bloody long run, its about 80kms to the bar from urangan and then probly 10-20kms to some grounds. I will shoot you a PM if we head out that way aswell :) Hopefully the weather comes good soon as it seems there is some good reds around up that way, been getting the odd one to 12kg at rooneys
