Hi Guys

Thinking about buying a 2004 Ford Escape, 6 cyl.4 speed auto lots of beels nd whistles, about 170 k on the clock. Does anyone own one similiar to this? ust ondering yu think of them, are they worth owning, fuel consumption etc. Basicaly just a general rundown of anyone's experience with them. I will be using it mostly for towing my 4.5 m glass halfcab and taking the family camping. It won be a huge daily driver as I take public transport to work and we use the missus's astra for running around in. Any thoughts/experiences/info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

G'day,

I don't own one but I have a mate who did. He loved the driving position, comfort and space but found it pretty thirsty. The Escape is a monocoque (no chassis) so the towing capacity may be less than you think. Check this out carefully to avoid an expensive mistake.

Hi,
I have the 4 cylinder 2.3 petrol 4 months old. Done 10,000km. As a vehicle, magic. Good driving position and view, very comfy. smooth soft ride, well set out. One problem is I have to get window tinting on the radio display. The light behind the radio-AC controls is distracting at night and is not on the dimmer switch.

As for handling, parking is a breeze. The 4 is quite nippy so the 6 would be great.

My daughter has the v6 Territory, same donk as the v6 Escape. fuel 11-11.5 per 100.

Towing please consult the manual and ensure the heavy duty tow-pack is fitted.
I am only towing a 3.9m tinny on the light tow pack.

I am very happy with mine and would suggest at $30k new, not a bad deal.

I'm a bit late with this post ,however I was in the market for a smaller more fuel saving 4by.Spent weeks on the net and test driving and it got down to the Ford Escape/Mazda Tribute and Nissan X-Trail.
The X-Trail won as it has a much better towing package / capacity of 2 tonnes. I've had it for some months now did a Winton /Longreach trip to try it out and am extremely happy with the decision .
Tows the tinny and the camper with no problems at all .
