After years of not being allowed to stock shimano, anaconda now have the range. Ive just opened the catalogue, and TLDs are on special from $169-189 (Club price). Baitrunners are $149-209.
Take that to the mart that shall not be mentioned and insist they beat it by 10% as per thier promise. I did this a few years ago, and they complained that this was below thier cost but they honored it. Lets help them lose some more money. ;D I think they owe us a favour or two.....

You might (just might) come across a stumbling block there.
The reels are advertised with a 'from' price with no actual price for each individual model reel in the TLD or baitrunner range.
So they'll probably say from the highest price quoted is what they'll give the discount off if they were stil cheaper then their own rels.
But go for your life :)

Good ol #####. I bought my Shimano Calcutta from there. Same thing. Advertised elsewhere cheap, went in there and asked them to beat and they did. They also made a misstake and ended up giving me a 100B instead of a 200B. So got a better reel for less money. Couldn't complain with that.
Worthwhile if you can get it.

Finga,
I thought if that too. When I went in, I didnt have a written quote. I just told em who the dealer was, the model TLD25 and the price that the dealer was offering. After the sales rep spoke to the manager, the manager said "we have to honor it, but only if the other dealer has TLD25s IN STOCK right now. " So the rep rings the dealer posing as a buyer to check the price and availability, then he knocks off 10% for me. That was gold coast store a few years ago when someone had them $165 and I got it $149.
So just check the price of the model you want and make sure their in stock before you go.
Cam,
read this thread and you should be able to work out why we dont mention them.

Its a big sports store ending in mart, and it doesnt start with a K.
Anyone else who hasnt read the thread will also find the history very interesting. I think its the first time our founder has talked about the incident.
I would only buy stuff off them if its below cost and they are losing money. I will not help them in any way after reading this thread.

gecko, so Anaconda do the right thing and offer you the reels at a good price, and all you do is use it to get a cheaper price elsewhere. That is a good enough reason for them to up their prices as they lose sales even at the cheap rate. It's that thinking that keeps A**** advertising as the the good tackle shops can,t keep going without sales.
A**** lose money on the deal! I think not.

Mate, I dont make the market, the retailers set the prices according to supply and demand.
Im just giving a few mates the heads up, same as someone did for me.
Interestingly, anaconda also offer the 'beat it by 10%' deal in writing on their catalogue. So when the mart offers a price, anaconda will get treated the same. Its those 2 giants that wanna slug it out, and the consumer is the winner.
By the way BCF will also price match, but they dont put it in writing.
And I do choose to support smaller stores as well. I buy a heap from doug burts (who have the best advice) and also nerang camping, as well as buying from usa by ebay. Nothing wrong with shopping around.
Im surprised you feel that way, but each to his own, and no offence intended.
cheers

I imagine chain retail is retail no matter what the goods. The fact that Anaconda offers the goods cheap is not a gesture of good faith on their part (no retail business would stay open if that was the case). The goods are offered on special for 2 reasons:
a. To get you in store, hopefully while there you'll buy other, normally priced items and hence the store profits from a visit that otherwise wasn't to be (a lot of research is done on this).
b. You'll be impressed with whatever is on special and in the future you'll continue to buy that particular brand, usually at normal prices and profit margins (doesn't matter from what store...). These specials are always 'sponsored'.
Shops offering the 10% discount for advertised specials elsewhere is pretty common and most any large retail chains offer it (most don't advertise it however they will honour it, sometimes with a fight, depends on the managers disposition). This is just essentially to keep you in their store for the reason listed at 'a' (and to keep you loyal, they don't want to lose your regular business to the competition!).
Customers who utilise the method of 10% saving elsewhere are very rare, thats why some retail chains are very vocal of their support for it.
Go for the jugular, if you are passive and pay whatever, thats when you end up with not much to chose from and are paying what THEY want you to.
