I know this must have been done a million times bt...

I just brought a new Starlo Stix 2-4kg n was hoping to put either a 2000 or 3000 Affinity on it.. neway i took it in to the local store to match it up n found that neither just didn't feel right >:( >:( so now i am looking for something a little better quality and something that will match up a bit better, considering either the Tierra 2000 or the new Symetre 2500 as i believe they would come in between n match up perfectly(do not sell these reels in store). what other options do i have?? thoughts fellas?? would really appreciate some help

Cheers

the reels in the 2500 size sound like the go for ya. the tierra in the 2500 sounds like a winner for ya, they are good value for the $$$$ . THE SOL in the 2500 is awsome too but a little more money but well worth it, i use the 2000 in the sol and love it. iv tryed the advantage in the 2500 and i love them to, you can find them on ebay for a good price.

May be the new Stradic is worth a look as well grabbed a 1500 for $179.00 a few weeks back ready for some summer breaming,Only used it once as yet but she feels nice worth a look to.

for something as light as that id avoid using a daiwa 2500 and move down to a 2000 or 1500(daiwa).

shimanos the same size are smaller.

have a look at the 1500 tierra.. or if u can the extra coin get a 2000 sol.

I use a 2500 size Stradic. Just the right size for me. Heaps of drag for the fish I chase. I played with heaps of reels around that size and price range and this one felt just right. It's not the trendiest looking reel on the planet ( those designers over at the Diawa factory are clever little buggers ) but the fish really don't seem to be put off by it.

I'd say go a Sol There deff Quality and worth it.

Looked at The Daiwa Excellor's ? They would b e a bit more in the cheaper price range.

I know most would say Sol but they just out of my price range and the only other Daiwa reel below that, that would be worth looking at is the Tierra?? Also the Shimano 2500's are pretty much the same size as the 2000 Daiwas?? or am i missing something??

Yeah the Sol's are a bit of coin to spend aye.

I think The Tierria would come in heavier then a Stradic. (pretty shure a 6000 Stradic is 50g heavier then a 8000 stradic:-/ )

The Shimano's 2500 are a close size up to any of the Daiwas 2000..

Certates are good, I got 2 of them, money well spent although I'm sure they are out of your budget if the Sol is.

Yeah mate, i would love to get 1 of them 1day :(

Can anybody tell me the real difference with the 2000 and 2500 size Daiwa?? is it just the spool??

In Certates the 2000 size has 4kg's of drag while the 2500 has 7kg's. Guessing its all the same with the other model Daiwa's
I use a 2500 Certate and Sol for most of my fishing from in shore reef the Popping for whiting.
I had a 2500 Advantage and it was also a great reel

I'm not too sure on what the difference is between a 2000 and 2500 Daiwa spinning reels is, but by the looks of it, they both have the same gear ratio, same amount of ball bearings and the 2500 generally weighs a few grams more than the 2000 models and the spool (2500 spool) would be bigger.

One other thing. Daiwa's 1500 and 2000 models are exactly the same. They both have the same gear ratio, same amount of ball bearings and weigh the same except the 2000 has a bigger spool.

Just keep this in mind, if you are fishing on a stream for Trout and using flies, you would choose the 1500 over a 2000 size mainly because the smaller spool would cast better than a bigger spool because it is more suited for lighter stuff. Hope that made sense!

What are you targetting by the way?

For the same money as you'd be paying for a tierra locally it would be worth looking at ebay USA and getting an advantage.

Consider the Daiwa Exceller. It is a nice little reel for the $$$. I have have Exceller 1500 on one of my bream combos, it performs well and only weighs 235 grams. I also have TD Sol 2000,, 2500, 3000, 4000 and Heartland 2000 which are all great reels but double the price. Cheers. Shaun

I have three Tierra 2000's which I use for bream, flatties, & Jacks, plus the usual by-catch of trevally etc. Can't fault them, they are great value for money (just picked up the third one on special for $165.00 8-)) at around $200.00. The drags are the usual great Diawa quality and they are light and have plenty of line capacity for what I use them for.

I have them on Berkley 1-3kg & 2-4kg Dropshot Tournament Pros and are either spooled with 15lb Suffix braid form heavy work or 2 & 3lb Crystal Fireline for bream.

I highly recommend them if that is what you budget is, if you shop around and can afford one - go with the SOL, I have a mate who has both the Tierra and the SOL and the SOL is a little better.

Cheers

Cheers Leighton, I've found that only the tournament reels show how much drag they can handle.. anybody know why?? or do you think, with the jump from the 2000-2500 models it is the same with the Sols/Tierras etc..??

My main concern right now is getting the balance right so does anyone know if the 2000 or 2500 would better suit a 7' 2-4kg stick????

All info so far has been really great and i appreciate all the help i'm getting.
Cheers

If you are worried about balance, take the rod you want to fit the reel to, to your tackle shop, they should have no problems with you fitting the reels to the rod so you can see how they feel. If they have a problem with you doing that then find yourself a new tackleshop - one that has a bit of customer service.

Even with the a$$ falling out of the aussie dollar its still cheaper to buy reels OS (pretty sad really:-/). An advantage retails for around $280 - $290 here but you'd get one for $200 delivered from ebay usa.

Its not ebay thats either reliable or unreliable its the individual sellers. Check the sellers feedback and how many items of the same value they've sold, if they get consistent good feedback then you will be right. I wouldn't buy anything off anyone with less than 3000 sales behind them.

The same body is used for the 1500 and 2000 sized reels. Same with the 2500 and 3000.

If anyone is going into their local in the next few days and has the time to compare the Tierra 2500 with the Affinity 2000 or 3000 side by side, i would be extremely greatfull! i want to know if that particular Daiwa model is smaller than the Penn.

I think i will get the Tierra, either the 2000 or 2500 depending on if i can compare sizes and i will prob get it in Oz after checking out the US prices. Only $10-20 more here.

Cheers guys

the 2500 daiwa is along the similar size as the 3000 in the penn range.

where as the 2000 model from both parties is similar..

if you try and find a tackle shop that specialises in fishing more so youll be able to compare them for yourself.

from experience tho.. the penn light spin are a budget model.
very capable but theres alot more comfortable reels from the daiwa stable, which is easily distinguished by weight in the hand.

and if you are worried about balance.. then take the rod in as john said before and try matching it to a reel.

like finding a shoe that fits really....
