Hi all, could someone advise me on the best gloves/ material for handling the leader when game fishing? I don't like the idea of having some fish stretch my arm another 30 cm. so I want something that will not grip the line when I unwind my hand to release the trace as I have kinda grown attached to my hand and fingers.

do a google on aftco gloves, a mate uses them and they seem good, might get a pair for myself

Thanks Daz, will do. Someone told me the kidskin riggers gloves wer ok so long as they were kept wet but I'd prefer something made for the job, like the ones you have recommended.

Pig skin gloves are the go, they might not last for years but they are good for stopping cuts and good for grip on the leader.

Thanks Jack, it seems that I may have to experiment to see which ones are the go. Maybe I will promote the other half to glove test pilot for one or two trips then count her fingers ;)

good ol leather gardening gloves. they are inexpensive and will do all you need them to do. very tough.

we have always used the kidskin riggers gloves....but the technique s more important than the glove.....just remember when you wrap the line around your hands do it the opposite way to your natural instincts and keep your thumb out of the way....and if the fish takes a lunge...let the line go....this will save many fingers.
