Well went out to Cania and tied on a new Tilsan Bass that I had bought at BCF a few months ago..

It just wont swim, It would swim for a bit and then goes to the right and does full circles.. Has anyone else has this problem or is it something I am doing... do you slow them right down or something? OR is it just a faulty one?

Any replies appreciated...

cheers barra

sounds very much like your retrieval or trolling speed is too fast. If it tracks ok normally. They arent a high speed lure.....a quick guide to their speed is just above walking pace.

There's as many reasons why a lure won't swim as to how good some do.

so helpful!:o::)

Barra, lots of lures dont swim perfectly out of the box and just need a bit of tuning.

If the lure swims (or circles in a major case) to the right, use a set of pointy nose pliers to tweak the fixed metal tow point on the bib of the lure slightly to the right. Only do very minor adjustments as you'll have it doing circles the other way if you go too far. Also be careful not to put any pressure on the acrylic of the bib, you dont want to crack it.

Its best to tune on the water where you can play around then test.

i have a couple and one of the bibs on mine hasn't been attached(glued or whatever) correctly to the body of the lure.

instead of sitting flush one edge of the bib sticks out a good 4 or 5mm.

i never noticed it in the pack or when i tied it on but one cast soon told the story. its easy to miss with the bib being clear and all.

any way im sure mine is an isolated case and i miagine you've probably had real good look at it.

but that was my experience.

sometimes the splitring can cause havic on the tilsan bass and sometimes you have a mass produced lemon on your hands.the same lure for someone else is fine and yours is a dud. i say swap it or tune it as the bass has caught me some great fish.flathead, yellowbelly, bream oh and yes bass too

I've never had a problem with any of the Tilsan lures I've bought. I'm surprised to hear of the duds you guys have unluckily bought.

I think they're an excellent lure though. I caught my first ever barra on a Tilsan Bass.

Whenever I buy any lure- regardless of make- I always check it out as best I can first, paying particular attention to the bib and towing point.

Just my opinion but since Halco took over Tilsan lures the quality seems to have suffered. You will find the Tilsan Bass very hard to tune due to the countersunk tow point being made of a thin sheet passing right through the lure. The lure is a deep diver so it wont take to a lot of speed but if you find that in some relatively slow moving water the lure still 'plays up' on a slow to medium retrieve take it back to the place of purchase and they should swap it over,if they give you grief simply shoot an email off to Halco as it has been my experience they will ask for the lure back and send you another one.

Thanks for replies everyone, I might try tuning the lure as PLAZTIX has suggestd. I tried to swim the lure slowly but it still does the same thing! I live a bit far away from another BCF so taking it back would probably be a waste of time! I hope tuning it works! thanks again
