First Jew!

Well I went for a fish after work on Saturday on the river. Was quiet till after dark. Caught a huge prawn in the cast net and put it on the alvey combo- bad mistake! Got hit hard! This was a big fish very strong first run and then i got some line back and then it ran again peeled alot of line off with my hand on the reel as drag to slow it down. This fish would run and then stop and once i had some pressure against it it ran again, It headed close to shore and went straight under the pontoon next to mine- and busted me off- any suggestions about what it could have been? Was thinking a threadie or jew but i don't know how threadies fight? Anyway it was so great to be busted off by a big one- keeps you keen to keep learning and discovering ways to fish better. Anyway after that caught a pike eel, scored some more prawns and managed to catch my first Jew- (only 35cm) very magnificent looking fish- does this still count? Had to leave them biting the boss was cooking dinner. Great afternoon fishing!;D

lol good work, your 35cm jew beats all my jew and i've caught like 6 of them, all ranging from 20-30.

Sounds like it could have been a ray. They often do stop dead, and also head for the bank or the shallows to try and get out of danger.

Maybe ? but there where some big head shakes as well, so i'm still wondering..

My guess its a ray they love big prawns and thats pretty much their fighting style. Alwell always next time to catch a big dew aye.

Well done a jew is still a jew jst keep throwing that live prawn out if ur getting 35cm one there the big one will b somewhere and try to make sure ur there around the turn of the tide! cheers Simon

A jew is a jew, no matter what the size. The only species that this rule doesnt count for is snapper/squire lol.
