I spent last week at Sunshine Beach and it looks, from Pistol Pete's post that I was fishing the wrong end of the National Park Rocks. Here is the summary:
The first few days (21st / 22/ 23rd) of northerly winds gave me the opportunity to fish some good spots off the rocks around Paradise Cave. There were plenty of Bream around in the early mornings but the highlight was a 60cm Yellowtail Kingfish. He was caught just on dawn on a Gulp Pumpkinseed Turtleback Worm off a ledge just near Devils Kitchen. He put up a great fight and was a real challenge to subdue on the Dropshot with only 6lb fireline and 12lb leader and all those rocks. It took about twenty minutes to wear him out with plenty of long runs. He eventually swam right under a rock ledge for about 5 minutes and just refused to budge. I loosened off the drag and to my great surprise he just swam out and I tightened up again and dragged him up to my feet. He/ she tasted pretty good too.
Once the southerly wind set in I focused on the Noosa river and managed a few 45+cm flathead from around the Sheraton Bridge and down along the new fishing track at the river mouth all on plastics. Yesterday morning I found a few Bream at the mouth of Lake Weyba but all were pretty small. I was about to head off for breakfast when wallop - on my last cast I pulled up a 73 cm lizard on a Gulp 2” Peppered Prawn. She was released after the pictures and left me with a a nicely chewed thumb as I had forgotten the gloves!
Once again a great weeks fishing - Noosa offers so many options and even with the crowds and the wind - if you are up early and keep moving you can find plenty of good fish off the bank.
