Which Western Rocks are you after?
There is a western rocks in the southern bay and one off the northern end of moreton island as well. Possible several other small patches of reef around as well locally known as western rocks.

Tuna dicer is right there are probably half a dozen places that people refer to as western rocks. I suspect however your after the area just to the north of moreton as you come around comby point. There are big boulders/ coffee rock is about 30ft of water. This area can be pretty exposed and in a northerly swell it is basically offshore conditions. Is it worth fishing? well it isn't a secret hot spot but you can pick up some decent fish there, cobia cod etc. If i was traveling up that way it would probably be worth having a drift over.

iwas there not long ago, was heavily silted with sand, was hard to find decent ground. totally different looking ground to my previous trips there. sand moves with current so may be clear now

Its offshore from between 20 yrds to 700 yards in a patch basically from the eastern edge of the combi rip east to the next rocky point. At different times different parts get covered over or exposed. I have never had a GPS mark there that continually hits exposed reef. The entire area is rubble under the sands.
Just cruise through and you will pick the difference in colour of the water then work it with a drift.
