This one went 118 on the mat, my biggest, but not my best, if you know what I mean;)

Pete, nice fish mate.

This one went 118 on the mat, my biggest, but not my best, if you know what I mean;)

Know exactly what you mean Brian - my 'best' fish was a rocket-powered 92cm beastie that took a long time to land and included 6 or 7 aerial displays and backing around some timber to 'unknit' it! Just would not give up!

The 114 went OK though........

BTW I knew the pic of your fat butt ugly 118 would appear on this post!;) ;D ;D

No offence........

no offence taken mate;D

Arent those 90+ fish just scrappers though mate, big enough to be more than a handfull, straighten hooks or splits, rub off leaders, but still at a size/weight where they dont knock up so quick.
Meteries are gold, but for sheer entertainment a 90 going ballistic is hard to beat IMHO.

cheers

Peter4
26-09-2008, 08:11 AM
You're spot on Brian.

Now that I have a metery and a decent PB I'd much prefer a session with two or three 90+ fish that will challenge my abilities, try and knit me up in the timber and give me one or two aerials (without throwing the hooks!).

Having said that I'm now seeing reports of 'slimmer' bigger girls that are putting up great fights..........

I think your 118 and my 114 pulled hard but were simply too fat and tired relatively quickly.

My New PB 115cm caught at Mondy on 17th Sept 2008. She was heavier than Roo's PB 117cm. You have it bang on Pete, the 90's don't give an inch, not to mention the aerial displays!! Can't wait to get back there!!

This is one of three 90, 111 and this girl at 119.5cm, that we caught at Monduran on Easter Sunday this year, up the top end. Over 600 in the park. But nice and quite up where we were.

Only two and half weeks till the next trip.

Apologise for the photo, but was a little buggered and so was the fish at this stage. 17mins to the boat side and then the netter caught the lure in the lip of the net. A bit of panic and a set of grips and comfort lift. Measure quick photo and back over the side.

All caught within a hour period, but after the first two left the area to quieten for awhile and got the big girl on the first cast back into the timbers, in about 1.5 to 2m of water.

We waited around for time and checked to see ok, even returned the next day, after dropping of a couple of followers, to check the area again. But they had gone quite with a little wind change.

Trev

i agree with you brian the 90 cm ones are great fun that is for sure and my best i reckon was the 93 cm i caught a I it took me a good while to get her in jumping in the trees and snagging me twice and stripping all of my line i but 2 winds around the reel but i finally got her in . Anyway of course my biggest is the 117cm caught on the sweetwater meet and great weekend with a stuffed back i had to get tropicaltrout to lift her into the boat as i had no strenght in my back left to be able too

Young fella got this thumper at Peter Faust Dam back in 2005. His First Barra ever, came in at 116cm 22.5kg and best fighting barra I ever saw. Not a bad way to open up your Barra account. Followed it up 12months later with a 108cm 18kg Barra at Tinaroo Dam...

Great fish Steve - how was your back feeling afterwards?!

back was OK,...nerves were shot. both times fishing solo, both times with a busted electric motor...

125cm was in open water and the electric broke a cable mid fight...I basically drifted ashore and landed it there after some colourful language.

121cm Homer was in heavy timber with the since repaired electric driving in the opposite direction to the steering......that is difficult to do when your trying to concentrate on the fish too!!! more colourful language.!! but I got there. Two of the happiest days on the water for me.

thanks fellas Steve

Gotta agree with the general consensus that the 90s go the best .... with lots of air , speed , power & much more stamina ........ :) Mind you .... To date - I've blown every big barra that I've hooked :-[ ..... so I'm inching my way along the PB scale ...... 1cm at a time:P

Great fish there, seeing all those fish have triggered off my addiction again and can't wait until my next trip to Monduran and Awoonga.

My two most memorable moments are my two PBs.

The best was 136cm from Lake Awoonga about 8pm whilst trolling. It was a funny story because I was in free spool to get the lure out and was only about 5-10 metres behind the boat and all I felt was the line coming off the spool quite quickly. I locked it in and 15 minutes later she was in the boat and as you see from my face, I was quite Knackered.
The later one was 131cm from LAmke Monduran on my last trip aprox 2 months ago. She was caught in Bird Bay whilst casting to the weed edges. She was taken out in the open so had alot of fun trying to get er in.

Some say bragging, some say skiting Shaneo, mucha mucha;D Nah, just love the whole IBD thing mate.
Love the territory run off as well, whole differant ball game, heat, rain, mozzies, salty barra, heat, rain, mozzies, crocs, fingermark, heat, rain, mozzies, black jew, trevally and every now and then it gets hot, rains and a mozzie turns up. Problem is it costs a motza and I cant pull a trip up there on a drop of a hat like the impoundment fishery!

This one came in the lull after a nasty storm, from a spot Ive never managed to pull a fish from since, go figure?

Here are a couple that we got at Peter Faust on our last trip. My Dads went 126cm, and was very solid, she took a Rapala X-rap 30'.
My mate Mick is holding it for the photo, as Dad thought it was too heavy for him. She swam away strongly, I also got my PB - 121cm, but nowhere near as solid as Dads fish, what a sight when she cleared the water twice during the fight.;D
