nth straddie boys week-end

headed over to nth. straddie on friday with a few mates to have a bash at catching some tailor of the beach:D when we got off the barge a local told us we may have wasted our time because the netters went through the place 2 days before:o he was right >:( not 1 tailor. only a few dart and bream:'( we were very disapointed let me tell ya:'( i thought that tailor netting had stopped , so could someone enlighten me on this please:-/

I was there from Sat to Tues and also no tailor (although I only got to fish for about 1.5hrs each of the 3 nights and only in the gutter near camp).
We saw the pros shoot their nets today as well - probably be dead for another week.
Managed to get a few good dart today after giving up on the tailor.

hey, I"m heading over this weekend, anyone know how often the pros are hitting the east beach?
And does the whole beach shut down when they make a shot?

Most of the netting would be for Mullet. Late September is not the best for Tailor on Straddie if you are looking at the breeding run. You can get them all year round but earlier in the year is a bit better

according to the fisheries regulation 2008, ocean beach netting is only permitted between 1 april & 30 august (s 463). horse is right about earlier being better but not necessarilly because of breeding schools. we usually go over in may for 2 weeks, don't get many tailor but they are usually big buggas still returning south after spawning. i fish teewah beach regularly & some of the biggest tailor i've caught, 75cm +, are usually there between january to may still heading south, you don't get heaps of them as they don't shcool as tightly as choppers, maybe only 4-5 in a pack, but they are quality fish. you can tell they aren't spawning fish as they have no roe or milt sacks in their gut. attached pic is of a 90cm model from straddie may 2007. hope this helps.
